polishing recievers (the outside)

   I was wondering has anyone ever polished the outside of their 98, if you can do it with steel wool and would i need some sort of sandpaper to take the powder coat off?

	You could do that... if you wanted to. Steel wool should be fine enough to take off the layer of PC. Sandpaper might put more grooves into the metal than what you would like... even with something like 1000grit.

	Steel wool would take sooo long starting from scratch. Sandpaper would destroy the aluminum after you get through the paint and powder coat. Some kind of paint stripper would take the paint right off down to the aluminum and it will look the way it did before the factory paint. Then if you want it shinier, steel wool and aluminum polish will polish it up good.

	Thanks for the advice my parents took off some wall paper a little while back with this citrus stripper(real strong stuff) do you think that would work at all?

	^^^I don't know how much it would like the aluminum, but, that could possibly work. Just remember, be very careful with whatever u do.

	i stripped the paint of off my friends 98c cuz he didnt have the resources to do it and i used sandpaper (80 grit) to get the main coat off then used a dremel and a sandpaper like attachment and to finish it up i polished it with aluminum polish and it didnt seem to hurt the aluminum at all.

	^Sandpaper is fine they way you used it. But i wouldnt use it for the finish look. I used some paint stripper to polish my internals, then 'wooled' it and applyed polish and it worked beautifuly.

	Paint stripper (use sparingly), followed by steal wool, then a good metal polish.
