when i first got my A-5 and used it right from the box it did not break a ball at all but now it has started to break balls, especially when i have my flatline on. So i was wondering what i can do to fix this problem.

if it just started chopping balls when you put the flatline in it could be because it's not installed properly (the flatline) because i had the same problem with my 98c until i had it installed by a pro shop.

Bad paint will very easily cause breaking like this. Especialy in the Flatline. What kind are you using?

yeah definitly, velocity could be up too high for the flatline too, have it set around 270-275 BPS thats probable the perfect speed for the flatline, mines around 270 and i haven't chopped a single ball since i got it alligned right.

Possible fixes would be what was mentioned, velocity is the most likely next to the flatline, because you said you chop paint even when your not using flatty...

sorry, i didn't see where he said he was chopping paint even without the flatty, if thats the case it could be the balls your using, could be lop sided or the barrel might nto be clean?

Hey!

If turning your velocity down doesn't solve the problem then check to make sure the cyclone is feeding the balls into the breach properly because if the balls aren't all the way into the breach before the bolt is released then the result is a chop.

You will also want to try higher quality paint as well.

Many "Rec" batches will be misshapen, dimpled, and may even be big enough to break when pushed through the breach.

I am having a similar problem with my A-5. I am breaking paint. Took it my local proshop, they have no idea what the problem is. They tried 3 different types of paint, my velocity is at 265 fps, my regulator is set at 400psi for my low pressure kit. No burs, polished internals, and metal power tube and front bolt. Breaks paint either using my regular barrel as well as my flatline. Any ideas other than sending it to Tippmann? HELP!! Problems started back last fall... temp not an issue.Paint not the issue. I am using compressed air. My cyclone feeder is updated with both upgrades. I am just at a loss. So is my local tech. Anyone else have any similar problems WITH a solution to try...Thanks

Kevin

Not sure on what paint to really use. With the flatline I was told to use a thivker shelled paint. Like Marbilizer not bad.

The upgrades.... Look at the bottom of the cyclone feed. If it is upgraded there will be an "A" on the bottom. The upgrades are a softer, clear piece on the bottom of the ratchet for smoother cycling of the feeder.

If its brand new then it probably has the upgrades in it. I played today and I brkoe balls... all day. I used  all kinds of paint but didn't care about that.>LOL all I wanted to do was play. Any luck with yours?

firehunter, get that metal front bolt OUT. That's your problem. The front bolt pushes the ball into the barrel adapter before air is released. So, the metal front bolt is not only beating the crap out of the ball, it probably has a delrin insert that "seals" it better, which is also a bad idea. You need that little bit of space to allow the air not to punch the ball harder a second time.

As for DanA-5, the problem lies in your paint. Make sure you clean your gun completely- wipe all oil off the gun with Isopropyl alcohol. Clean the Cyclone feed too. When you re-oil, oil the cyclone around the ratchet, the bump on the bottom plate, and in the piston housing (tube). Make sure you cleaned the piston housing internally too. Then only apply oil to your CVX and the rear bolt, not to the front bolt. Don't over oil either- too much oil causes the oil to get on the paint making it brittle. Make sure you put the barrel adapter in correctly, and the Flatline.
