an expansion chamber allows the c02 to expand more therefore giving u less liquid in ur gun, more consistency, and more accurate shots....its definitely an upgrade to look into when shooting with c02. a quality xchamber is an x-core 8 stage but i have the tippmann one and it works miracles for me on my gun so i dont see the need spending the extra money for a little better one...but that decision i leave up to u

unless you want to spend the extra money and get a palmer stablizer which will work even better then a expansion chamber, of course a lot of expans do well too just depends on how much you want to spend.

An expansion chamber only works on CO2, because CO2 is stored in the tank as a liquid. In an ideal world, the liquid CO2 evaporates into a gas before it is sucked into the gun. Since that doesn't happen often, the expansion chamber is just a buffer zone to allow the liquid to expand and evaporate before entering the gun.

Air is well, air. It's just under pressure. Therefore, no need to convert from liquid to gas, etc.
