Hot Fill??

Whats a hot fill?

I ask cause when I got my tank filled for the first time it was pretty warm, is that normal? I'm a total noob to comp air.

Yup, its completely normal for HPA tanks to get warm when filled. If you
have a fiberglass wrapped tank, you can feel the tank swell when its filled
too!!

All Fiber wrapped tanks have warnings to not hot fill the tank. If you fill your tank too quickly it produces enough heat to damage the tank fiberwrap over time, that is a hot fill. You should always be able to hold the tank neck without it feeling very warm. If you do get a hot fill you will notice that if left alone the tank pressure will drop as it cools anywhere from 1/3 to 1/2 of what it was. www.cylindersafety.com has the details.

Rapidly filling a paintball cylinder results in heating of the gas (air/
nitrogen) and the cylinder. If filled too fast, this heat can become
excessive resulting in damage to the cylinder. Such damage can lead to
failure of the cylinder, potential property damage and personal injury or
death. Care must be taken to fill the cylinder at a rate so the cylinder
temperature does not become too hot to hold in your bare hand (140°F or
above).

Prior to each filling, the cylinder should be examined for signs of damage,
including heat/flame exposure. Also check to insure the cylinder is within
its hydrostatic test service life (3 years for fiberglass cylinders, 5 years for
DOT carbon cylinders, and 3 years for TC carbon cylinders). If the cylinder
is beyond its test service life or any damage is observed, do not fill the
cylinder. Take the suspect cylinder to a DOT or TC authorized hydrostatic
tester for inspection and pressure testing. Locate the retester facility
nearest you.

Never fill a cylinder beyond its rated service pressure.

Yes, heating up is normal becasue of all the friciton caused by allt he air inside.

Best thing to do is fill, thenlet it cool down then fill again because some pressure will be lost after the initial cooling

hehe, you should feel bulk cylinder when they are filled. We melted the carpet with one last summer.

Yes, bulk cylinder WILL TAKE OFF LIKE ROCKETS IF THEY ARE SUDDENLY VENTED.
