So today in English, Someone said the most idiotic and stupid thing about cops.  So my english teacher was talking about something that happened (true story).  There were police in NY that were looking for someone.  They found a guy in a stairwell that matched the description.  They drew their guns and told him to put his hands on his head.  The guy did it and reached into his pocket.  The cops shot him dead.  The 2 cops weren't convicted of anything, and no weapon was found on the guy.  Someone in class said they thing the cops should have gotten life in prison for murder.  THEY WERE DOING THEIR JOB!

Well, I know a cop...and he told me that shooting is a last resort. But in NY,  I'd probably shoot too.

It is a risky job. This is why it is important to learn to follow directions.

so cops are supposed to kill people?

if the guy was wanted because he killed someone then yes, they should have shot him, but if it was for like stealing or something...i think they should have at least been fired

The guy reached into his pocket.... its common sense if you do that when cops have their friggin guns drawn on you, they'll shoot. That is the worst possible thing to do with guns drawn on you. I'm not trying to say the guy deserved to get shot, but the cop had no other option. You think they're just going to stand and look pretty while the guy pulls a gun on them?

They jumped the gun, too hasty. Someone should shoot them. But seriously, they should have gone to jail. It was an accidental death, people go to jail everyday for an accidental death, its called manslaughter.

Think about it.  Are you going to have enough light in a stairwell to see what someone has in their pants?  Dude, they did what they were supposed to do.

The cops did what they have to do. Put yourself in that situation and look at through the cops eyes.

the cops were in the right 100%, why can't a guy follow a simple order by police officers if he didn't do anything wrong? sounds pretty fishy to me in the first place.

moral of the story is, police officer is in a dangerous situation and asks you to do something, do it

Actaully, the supreme court has ruled sever times that the police have NO duty to protect the public as individuals, just the public at large. Which I think is BS, but whatever. Either way, the cops were doing their job. If anything, the guy deserves to be shot again(even though hes dead) for disobeying the police. When they draw their weapons, or just in general, you do what they say.

Yep, cops are not in the wrong. IF you can't put your hands on your head when told too while a gun is pointing at you then it is time to add some chlorine to the Gene Pool.
Que pasa?

There was a cop that took flak because he shot a man that had just stabbed his partner.

Cops go through extensive psychological exams after they use force.

gg...

Link to a story about this? I'm pretty sure a corpse with 41 holes would be all over the news.
