I post because I want to hear your thoughts on this marker. I am trying to get my younger brother to star playing paintball again and he told me that the only gun he would buy is the Prolite, because he remembers shooting a friend of ours' Prolite back in the day. I told him that as close as he could get now would be the Pro/Carbine, and he seems to be on board with that idea.  He will not be doing any upgrades or customizations. Everyone has M98 and he doesn't want to splurge on the A-5.

Nothing wrong with the 98C, I like it better that the pro carbine because you can easily upgrade. Dont get me wrong, you can upgrade the pro carbine and have seen some great examples here.

Pro carbine out of the box is pretty accurate with decent paint only down sides is the harder trigger pull compared to the 98 and A5 and parts seem to just fall off.

Tippmann has a new 98 Pro comming out for I think around the price of the current A5, maybee check into that. If thats too much I would get the 98C over the Pro carbine.

Hey, Same old stuff, 98c is easier to upgrade. The Pro/carbine is an excellent gun, hence the more $.  Tell him to go for it if it gives you guys the chance to shoot each other LOL. I play with my bro all the time. The other guys love it. We gun for each other so badly sometimes that the others guys get shots in.

thanks for thr replies.

HE WONT BE UPGRADING!

I think it is a nostalgia thing with him. I hope after I get him to play his first game again and he gets the fever he won’t kick himself in the arse for not getting the A-5.

I would say that the 98c would be a great choice for a first marker.  I know this first hand, because it was my first marker and I still own it today.  It is very dependable.  I play a lot of woodsball and I don't have a local course, so I won't upgrade much.  I plan on adding a 14" J+J Ceramic barrel to what I have now.  My setup is in my sig.  Good luck and tell him that the 98c is really the way to go.  It is a great dependable marker and if he does ever plan to upgrade, he can upgrade to his full needs.  If all of his friends get better guns, and he wants to upgrade to be up with them, the 98c is the way to go.  I have nothing bad to say about the P/C either.  It is supposed to be a great marker, but I have not seen it in action.  I don't know anyone who owns one, but all the guys here say it's a heck of a gun.

Thanks for all the replies.

I am pretty sure he is ordering from 888. His only upgrade is the D-Feed. I have a question of different subject. Who makes a good drop forward for the A-5?

I have a Pro-Lite and a Pro-Carbine. They are reliable and extremely sturdy. The trigger pull can be lightened with a spring kit. I now use my Pro/C with its polished stock barrel. The Pro-Carb is an excellent investment. BTW my Pro-Lite was purchased in 1994 and still has the original valve in it; now that's quality!

I think Dead-On makes a decent one, Dont foget you'll need a lapco adapter too. If you get a drop, atleast get one with an on/off. I dont use a drop but I'm sure someone around here does and can recommend a better one.
