In a recent thread I mentioned about how back in the day we would play paintball from Canoe to Canoe on a small 3 island pond behind my house. I haven't though about those games for years until then.

It was a great deal of fun and I thought I would mention it here under a proper topic so that anyone with the interest and resources would get the idea.

If there is any interest in this topic I can post my experience of play like this, and the dynamics of the gameplay.

Think and give them all you have from the beginning, and never weaken!

Sounds like fun, though if you were to fall overboard...

It happend, almost every game. Marker's work if you dry and relube them. We would have 3 players in a canoe. I learned it worked out best to have two people control and manuver the boat, and only one shooter. When it gets hairy is the real fun... everyone rocks the boat so you have to work together and it is frustrating. My favorite tactic was to charge right at their boat and once close enough, have the rowers lay down in the boat and the shooter peak over the bow. I would also try to use the little islands to block the view of us covering distance on the water. We always had to stay off the shore because the defenders had such an advantage.

Once we got a trolling motor set up we had to swim marine batteries off the bottom if we tipped a boat. I have sunken in a canoe many times because of paintball, so it is always funny to go on a canoe trip now with friends and to rock the boat.

Think and give them all you have from the beginning, and never weaken!

how would you dodge incoming paintballs and how deep was the pond? it sounds cool, kind of like a mini navy fight. even toss a little scenario into the mix by making the rowers 'engines,' and if they get shot, the canoe couldn't move anymore.

The pond is only like 8' deep tops, maybe 10' in the deepest spot, but mostly around 6'. Incoming balls are dodged by laying down in the boat, if we got to close the rowers would try to throw packs of firecrackers in each others boats. Once the shooter is hit, he swims to shore or lays down in the boat, and a rower picks up the marker.

My mom's backyard was on the edge of the pond and I built a 2-man fighting hole on a berm, so if the boats came close to the shore they were done, since there was no cover for them then. With the trolling motor we mounted plywood for more cover, but the team on the shore almost always won even then. You hear balls tagging the boat while you are laying down in it and the trolling motor is bringing you closer. Yuo have to remember, this is when almost everyone had pump guns and the Pro Lite was the king of the neighboorhood. We used a raft a couple times and held it sideways to use as cover while running out of the water... you still get lit up.

I enjoyed shooting from boat to boat more then trying to hit beach. It was great to drop off a player on a island and have them hide to ambush the opponets boat. Or have a player hide on the floor of your boat so they think he is on the island, but then you have an extra suprise rower when speed becomes important.

Think and give them all you have from the beginning, and never weaken!

I wouldn't go with a high power motor boat because they go too fast and cover too much distance. Your marker only shoots around three hundered feet anyway and someone could get hurt with the power boat. Get six canoes together with trolling motors, then two John boats... that would be awsome.

Maybe you could go to a Canoe rental place and smuggle your paintball gear in a cooler. Once your down the river set up and have at it, just rinse the boats off before you return them. We had fun on a pond, but I think on a winding creek the ambushes would be phenominal. No cover in a kyack, and you cannot paddle and shoot at the same time, but kyacks are faster and more manuverable.

Think and give them all you have from the beginning, and never weaken!

I posted this idea last year, under the username sparky #2 (I forgot my password) It would be awesom, especially if you only had pump guns on the shore to even it out, and make it more realistic because the U.S. Marines are always highly equipped. Another cool thing to do is drop a player in the water and let him sneak up on the other boat, or ambush them from the water, just take your hopper off first. If you ever plaqr the Marines against people on the shore, send a detachment of Marines on the shore out of the sight of the other team and send them overland!
20% of people understand percents and 94% don't, so keep them out of sigs

Or you go down a creek w/an inflatable raft or dingy with a 5 men crew and you need to get to a beach at the end of the creek.

and dodging enemy's on nearby shore and stuff that would be great!!

Eyes up this one's for you!!! Brought to you by the Canadian Guy!!!

A high end marker?... keep it on the shore, but crank down the Vel so your balls only go 50-75 feet.

I enjoyed the boat to boat combat more then the people on land having a turkey shoot. As Dovehunter describes, if you got enough players together that game would be fun. My concern is that it would take the focus away from the boats and make it more of a woodsball game. I would try to make it so that the boats are not just used for transportation, but become the focus of the game. I suppose it all depends on the terrain you play on.

Think and give them all you have from the beginning, and never weaken!

u could make it so that the boats start with on one  in em at the shore. two teams start in different spots but the same distance from the boats and race to them. u could have to make it to a raft in the pond only accesible by the boats.
