Well i know that oils and grease with petroleum distilates are bad for your guns o-rings, but i was wondering if it could be used to lube the rear hammer, or would it still work its way into the valve and cause problems.
Thanks, Joe |

Petroleum products only break down Buna N o-rings. Urethane are fine.

Militec-1 grease, search their homepage and request a free sample, it will be more then enough. Use the oil on your metal with a hair dryer. I use the stuff on everything.

I would call them, I didn't see it on thier site either. I got a sample around a year ago, then bought a bottle. Go with white lithium grease.

A 1lb tube of good stuff will last you years. But if you have it, have at it, just don't over lubricate.

if you want the ultimate lube go with a 50/50 mix of Hoppes 9 and lithium grease. I discovered this from someone in the Tribe.

I'm going with 636andy636 on this one. Grease will work it's way in to the gun one way or the other. What are your seals and the rest of the o-rings made of? Better safe than sorry. You can get Molykote 33 cheap at any auto parts store. |

Just a little note about grease. Grease is notorious for picking up and holding dirt. Now if you are religious about cleaning your marker regularly after playing paintball it may be OK. If you do not habitually clean your marker however, and the grease gets dirty you could experience problems. Grease + dirt = a pretty good rubbing compound. Some grease also tends to get sticky with age. As KRL15 would say "Grub fer ponderin" |

An interestng note, with all the effort to polish the internals of the 98s, a few hours of play with a little "compound" on the metal to metal contact points tends to really smooth up the 98. |
