Hello everyone :)

I have recently purchased a used Model 98 (NOT Custom) marker from e-bay.  I am having trouble with it though...

1.  When firing the marker, every third or fourth shot(if not more often) the gun sputters/full-auto's and as a result of this, will often fail to re-cock.

2.The velocity is all over the place...one shot will be like a bullet, while the next shot seems like I could throw the ball faster.

At first I thought (hoped) it might be just that the gun was dirty.  After I disassembled, cleaned, and lubed the gun I gave it another try. The results were the same.  I tried the Co2 tank on my buddy's M98c...worked fine. So it wasnt the tank.  I fiddled with the velocity screw, but that didnt help.  I inspected and thoroughly lubricated any o-rings I could find in the gun, but still nothing changed.

After a bit of research, I discovered that my gun was lacking something...

The two valve bolts (on the outer right-side of the gun) were apparently non-existent.  I'm not sure if the previous owner had stripped them, or lost them...but in any case, they were'nt there.

After a little more research I discovered that these valve bolts are apparently suppose to be screwed in and secured with "Loctite".  This bit of information leads me to believe that these two little valve bolts are fairly important?... yes...

Most likely they are the answer to both of my problems, however, I am not posetive of this... hence, my presence here.  If my sputtering/velocity problems can be fixed simply by getting my grubby little hands on two valve bolts, does anyone know of a place to aquire them?  Can I simply call Tippmann and buy them?  Will the valve bolts from a M98 Custom fit on a M98?  Or are the missing valve bolts not the problem? Im almost certain they are though... everything else appears to be as it should.

Thanks in advance, to anyone who answers...

you are correct in assuming of the valve bolts. They can be received through tippmann. Email them and tell them your problems and they should esend you a pair for free. if not, you local painntball shop should have aparts kit.

If not then here is a link to countypaintball...they sell for a dollar, not sure what shipping will come to though...

edit: sorry, to answer your question, YES the vlave bolts for the m98 and custom are universal. there are many parts that can be switched out from the 2 versions except for the trigger assemblies, old manufactured barrels for the new threading (correct me if i got it confused, i keep forgetting) and some upgrades. Example, am RT trigger into an older m98.

according toMike at county paintball, customs after the serial no.: 495,501 have the new threading.

Yeah its definatly the valve bolts. If new ones wont stay in, the valve body is stripped and youll need to replace it.

You dont need to order the bolts special....it'ld be a total waste of money. You can go to any hardware store and buy two 10-32 screws and they'll work perfectly fine. When i bought my 98...which was well used(not i terms of properly used, jsut given to who ever needed a gun for the day) and it was missing these bolts. Once you get these bolts in you'll be all set.
