I know that most people won't use pump guns
becouse of the disadvantage(I know, I can't spell to save my life...
 )
that comes with them. But I thought of way to give them some advantage
over simi-autos. A peroson's marker can only shoot at a certain FPS
acording to the max BPS of that marker. This would give markers with
slower BPS a range advantage over simi's. So lets say we allow a pump
gun (1-3 BPS) shoot at 325 or 350 FPS while a normal mech simi (5-9
BPS) to shot at 250 or 275 FPS. And the faster the marker the lower the
FPS to a certain point (probly no lower than 225FPS). I already know a
problem with this idea is that no one probly wants to get shot by a
paintball at 350FPS. But then again, no one wants to get shot 3-5 times
at 300FPS with lightning quick markers of today. I don't think there
would be any real safty issue with slow markers shooting at high FPS as
many rec players could tell you (not a good sign when your takeing the
bark off trees 50ft away).So tell me what you guys think of this idea. I pretty sure this wouldn't have been the first time this same idea has come up but I haven't been able to finde it on this site. If you have any suggestions to make this idea better plz post them. No mask is rated for use over 300 fps. Increasing the velocity would only make the pump horribly inaccurate, and break paint in the gun. To make it fair, play with people that only have pumps. If you're complaining because you have a pump and can't compete with semi's, get a new gun.

LordJovian, good point on the accuracy at high FPS. I actually don't
own a pump gun (I'll put what I have below when i'm done with this). I
just thought limiting the FPS according to the BPS would add an
interesting twist to the game. The Guy, I looked up the ASTM for
googles and see what you were saying (350 fps bad idea, tho I should
have known). Thanks for the replies.

u should never play over 300fps it is not safe. And if ur going to play
at 350 fps that is really not safe. paintball masks are not made to
take paintballs that go 350 fps espespialy if you use some of those
tougher paintballs. Its just not safe. And trust me i would rather be
hit by 5 paintballs goin 280 fps instead of 350 fps. If you go on any
paintball field they won't let you got over 280 fps.

what disadvantage to pump play?
most people who use a pump as their primary marker do so for a reason I play pump 80% of the time in rec ball because it is cheaper an more fun. A good pumper is normally a better snap shooter then most people playing semi, they rely on their ability to hit people with one or two shots to get eliminations. Also its easier to make quick moves with the light weight pump gear, most pumpers i know, make better descions on the feild, and foot a much smaller bill, than the majority of semi players I've seen.. ever pump players dont have a disadvantage, and people thinking we need a leg up on the feild is insulting Edited by GhilleMan |

This is the most stupid post I've seen. I play with a pump 100% of the time. What disadvantages do you think I suffer from???? How is everyone else's semi's better than my pump???? Hell .. I play STOCK sometimes because having a hopper and a tank on my gun gives me more of an advantage over semi's. Using a 12gram and my 10 round horizontal feed makes the game more challenging to me. Have you ever played against someone with a pump that plays pump on a regular basis and not "now and then"???? Playing with a pump forces the shooter to think about what he's doing and what's going on around him. It's a game of accuracy and speed. It's not some "spray and pray" shoot fest that is the driving force of the paintball industry .... I think you need to play one entire season with a pump to really understand what it means to play paintball with a pump gun. You'll find that not only it is affordable, but it forces you to become a better player and makes you work of the important skills. Play pump for a season and then go back to semi. You'll find that you've become a more disciplined player. It doesn't matter if you've spent $50 or $1500 on a marker. It's the player and not the gun that desides who wins .... Sorry if I sound preachy but it just annoys me to no end to see someone claim that I'm at a disadvantage because I don't shoot more than 10rps. And saying that allowing me to shoot at a higher veliocity is not only unsafe but complete bunk. I don't need to shoot 300+ fps to flank and bunker your sorry butt. I've done it a thousand time before .... I'll do it a thousand times again. |

I play under 300 fps at mine And something I've been thinking about if neck protectors were mandatory and mask for 400 fps were made could we all play at 380? I would like to get hit by a paintball going 380-400 fps Edited by Sentinelz |

If it fires properly increasing the velocity will only add range before the ball hits the ground (if there isn't a target in between). I have found that most of the time the action happens within 150 ft. Where is your velocity advantage then? It is only unsafe. I think I get the idea that got you thinking about this. I used to play years ago when more then half the people playing had pumps. I started playing again about this time last year and was amazed to see all these high BPS e-markers. What has the sport come to? I think it is the popularity of speedball and manufactores pushing unnesesary products. I can lane people just fine with my R/T. I don't need super crazy balls per second, no one does. The industry seems to be leaning in the direction of increaseing consumer's consumption. Imagine that? |

What you need to do is buy the fire storm crank put it on an a-5 take off the handle and find the smallest tool with the fastest rpms a router would work and hook it up to the nob of the crank. one problem the cyclone breacks all of the balls it would only shoot the 4 rounds in the cyclone. |
