This is a "If WAS releases a new board for the A-5" thread. If it's a break beam system it will be an excellent system for sure. But.......If it's a reflective eye system your paint selection "CAN" be limited. With WAS boards, you have an option for either reflective or non-reflective bolts. In non-reflective bolt mode(black bolt mode) dark paint (black or near black) cannot be used effectively because the eye is only detecting the paint, not the bolt and when coupled with an eye that reads at the bottom of the chamber it insures very accurate feeding and zero chops. This is my preferred mode even though sample times are slower. It's still blazing fast. White bolt mode will detect a light colored (preferably white) as well as non-black paint which gives faster sample speeds but is prone to chopping because detecting the bolt gives a false reading of paint being ready and the bolt may chop a half chambered ball. This mode will allow you to use any color paint. If WAS comes out with the board it will be well worth it. |

Heyya! Most respectfully, I do not see why it would matter. Why? Because the feeding system of the A-5 is timed and matched with the firing. Pull the trigger, hammer strikes the valve pin, air is released, etc so chopping really cannot happen. That's just my thoughts and understanding. Good luck! Edited by [FI_Reigns] |

Eyes would be a pain in the arse with the cyclone. If the eye did
decect a ball and stop it from shooting, the gun would freeze. No
firing means no turning of the cyclone, which in turn means no more
firing, unlike a "normal" hopper where the ball would drop into place
and start the cycle over again. You'd need to manually feed the cyclone
once after every prevented chop.

I think somethimes it is better to study how something works before coming up with a solution to a non existing problem.... just my take.

Cyclones never chopped yet......so I don't see how eyes will help any.
Its a nice concept, theres just no point to it. |

Yeah if you still had a cyclone and eyes, you still wouldnt be able to shoot very fast. This is because after 18bps, the cyclone becomes a blender which eyes wont prevent. The A-5 wont chop, but blend at high speeds. I see where your going if you mean an A-5 without a cyclone. |

Jim is already at work on a board for the a5. FI makes a good point about the cyclone timing the feed. Typical WAS fashion tells me the system will have an eye. As far as bolt color goes for reflective systems black is the best option. |

I must be in the wrong business. I can't afford to shoot an entire day at 13-15 BPS let alone 17-18 BPS, and at the lower rate, I have yet to have a problem with my A-5 chopping balls. Excellent system. I can understand improving any part of the marker, to make it better, but efficiency would have been a better priority in my opinion.

Wow. The board will probably have eyes, since Tippmann pretty much contacted WAS of their own accord and mentioned they were producing the Custom Pro E. There will be features useless to the A-5, but useful for the Custom Pro E. Did everyone forget that Tippmann released a new gun? As far as the Cyclone, no electro hopper can beat it. Sure, some might feed faster, but look at ALL of the hoppers, not just the Halo and Q-loader. The Cyclone beats the crap with 18 bps limit out of most of them. And for chopping, it wins. How do I know it wins? Easy- the A-5 doesn't need eyes or an anti-chop bolt (as long as your paint isn't crap) to not chop. Sure, if you try to use large bore paint and put it through a small bore barrel the front bolt is going to destroy paint. And if the paint you use is brittle and crappy it'll explode from the front bolt. Thats the catch- the Cyclone doesn't break paint, your front bolt explodes the paint it broke into the cyclone. The A-5 doesn't need eyes or ACS bolts. Only guns with bad design need a secondary design (bolt, eyes) and a tertiary design (hopper) to fix their screw-ups or neglegence. The A-5 has a Cyclone, part of the initial design of the gun. Mayhaps certain people need to know something besides posting "My gunz da roxsorz, a5 and Cyclonez ar teh suxsorz!" If it is a blender, then that is because you do not pay attention to releases and updates on your gun. If your cyclone has an A stamped on the bottom, that means you have the updated soft sprocket thingie and you wont chop. If you chop, then more likely then not, you have the old cyclone. As far as the person having trouble shooting more then 13 BPS, you're doing something severely wrong if you've got the new cyclone. I would honestly look into the quality of paint you are buying |

Cyclone's aren't perfect, that's for sure. I ran an A-5 with LP
and E-Grip, and I was burning through cyclones every 3-4 times I
played. It would wear down and not turn to feed when it had paint in
it. The cheap ratchets kept wearing out on me, and I was send my
cyclon in to be fixed about once a month. That got old really
fast, because when it goes it's gone, and your days over. Also, I
usually would rip long strings at the 15 bps cap, and I would get about
5 chops per case roughly. And in the winter, the cyclone is just
way to hard on paint, then it is the definaition of a blender. I
wish I still had the old pics on my comp of my cyclone absolutly
dousched in broken paint.

Tonight I learned from a reliable resource that TE is currently using EQ boards for both 98's and A5's and both have eyes. Can't wait to see what they came up with. |

I've never seen a cyclone chop. My friend has the A-5 with the r/t and another has the e-grip. The only time i've seen a A-5 chop paint was with paint so weak that dropping it from 5 inches off the ground made it break. And the only reason it broke in the A-5 was breaking in the barrel. As for eyes? isn't that a waste of money for the A-5. But what about the 98C?
