Before anyone says anything, I did search for this kind of topic and couldn't find it but here's my Q. Is the Flatline worth spending the money on for my 98c?

Shoot or be Shot
Trespassers will be shot,
Survivors will be shot again.

Not really worth it in my opinion, they may go far, but they usually never actually break when they go the extra distance.  About $120 just to shoot further and a small chance of hitting an enemy who's far away doesn't sound worth it to me, especially when you can have more fun rushing up and suprising them.

Flatlines are very worth it if your style of play accepts them. My entire scenario team went flatline and we kick some major butt wherever we make an appearance. None of us have ever had problems with balls breaking at distance with them. I remember that one of our players who passed away recently smacked many players on top of their heads shooting from an unbelievable distance with the wind to his back. Was so successful that refs went to see if he was hot gunnin

Anyway, poor guy will be missed.

PS..

Flatlines are exelent for cover fire, especialy from hills and such. We are currently testing tactics that provide flatline cover to four three man mortar units were developing. Should be pretty sweet when we work out all the kinks.

Not worth the money for the 98C when compared to the price of other more useful upgrades. Although, good up for an already tricked out A-5, if you have money to blow.
Think and give them all you have from the beginning, and never weaken!

There were a couple posts that answered this question but, do they perform well, are they reliable?

No, not really. They have good distance but if I were you I would just shoot an enemy in a nearer distance and it would be more fun..

I have been shooting the Flatline in my 98C for about a year. Certainly velocity is down by the time you reach out to 200 feet, but a hit on the head or on the goggles still breaks every time. I find my Flatline just as accurate as the other barrels at closer range. A lot of those long range shots are curved to one side due to the extended time of flight during which the wind has a chance to work on the ball...but I still make hits and kills at those distances with shots that I wouldn't bother to attempt with ordinary barrels. Keep an eye open on Ebay for used barrels. I have bought 3 use Flatlines for less than $60 each (one I got for $30). Sent them back for refurbishing which Tippmann does for free. Depending on distances my choices for the day is Flatline, Hammerhead Battle Stixx (both bought at half price on Ebay...Hammerhead was NIB) or a Stone Cold II (the only barrel I bought retail).

The ONLY draw back of the Flatline that is different than other barrels is the requirement for small to small-medium diameter paint. PMIs All Star works best in mine, but the cost is a killer($55 to $66 a case everywhere). I have switched to Diablo Heat with near equal performance to the All Stars at half the price. ($30.00 a case at 888Paintball.com)

It depends on your style of play. If you like to play up front in all the action then the flatline isnt for you. If you sit in back and like to shoot long distances then the flatline is a possibility but i would look at other barrels before you jump into the flatline.

if u install it right and dont use crap paint it will work perfectly. It only gets inacurate for the last 20 shots u get wen u run out of air and the balls float out of your gun. With an A-5 u then have to keep manually cocking the cyclone because not enough air is left to power it.

Flatlines work awsomly if taken care of and used corectly. Does NOT work well with $5 bags of paint. 32 degrees works fine in mine. Marbalizers and draxus work great. Insanly accurate at long distances with really good paint.

E-Grip
Tapco T-6 stock
JCS Duel Trigger
JCS Universal BiPod
Core Remote
