Iv heard before that you can operate a Tippmann on low-pressure without the LPK. And a recent thread inspired me to try it out for myself. So today I did!

I took the Sledgehammer reg and gauge off my autococker (pretty much butchered the gun), and transfered them onto my 98. To adjust the reg you have to take the line off the bottom which is a real pain, so I put on my ol' vertical adapter which is easy to remove and put on. And I also put in an in-line gauge to check the pressure, the whole setup was for testing so its pretty ugly.

The results- At just under 500psi it cycled fine, but the velocity screw was all the way in. So when I tried turning it up, my gun went "full auto". This is probaly because less diverted air means less potential blowback. So I turned the reg up to about 550psi, and everything is perfect. The gun with RT cycles blazing fast like before, and soon Ill be able to feed it with the Halo B I bought!

So if you want to run your gun on low-pressure, you dont need the LPK, just a regulator. Heres some pics-

During testing

The final setup.

HErd it before too. On the a-5 its a bit different though. The cyclone gets starved for air.

Sounds great. I'm still getting an LPK for my a-5.

I can attest that the A-5 will not even come close to firing properly at 450 psi input.

Forgot about the A-5. We wont know untill we try it. I can bet you it will though. My RT worked at the same ROF (about 20cps) as on high pressure. I was surprised it did. So why would the cyclone not operate from the blowback if my RT does at that pressure?

Next time I get my hands on an A-5 Im testing it out.

I did try it; it would not work off 450 psi.

i'm using an autococker regulator on my A5 working on 500psi and i consistently get 278fps on all the field chrono i've been to. i can go down to ~450* and it still cycles just fine but my fps goes down to 230-250fps range.

*i have a 1200psi 100degreee sweep gauge, so i can't really tell for sure, just that it's between the 400 and 500 lines. i'm definitely sure about the 500 psi tho cuz the needle is right on the 500 line.

LP is 450 or under. You would still need an HP tank for this to work. Therefore, you would reduce kick alittle bit, but won't get an more efficent.

And, if you have an RT, this mod would suck.

500 is still lp relative to the atmospheric 850psi with which the a5 normally operates.

If it wasn't for my RT I could drop the pressure on my 98C with the LPK to under 300psi, around 270 I think. Becuase the RT used some of the air that would have been used to recock the gun, I had recocking problems at higher rates of fire, so upped the prsssure to about 350psi.

Really, I thought he made his own LPK. It wasn't that hard. I remember some of it.
Make the channels on the valve deeper
RVA
Lighten the back bolt
a reg
a VA with a T fitting
And he made his own secondary reg.

you could try playing with the springs and maybe get your operating pressure even lower
