Ya isn't supposed to go in to turn it down.  Anyway just cut the little spring a bit and then try.

no need to cut the spring. Your just turning your velocity adjuster screw the wrong way. Turning it in will bring it down. Turn it in almost all the way and then back it out slowly.

The velocity will go down really slow and then drop all of a sudden if you do it the other way.

Then I would look at a spring modification, though I would suggest the lighter one of the Madman Spring Kit if available or cut off a loop at a time of the one he has. But just incase, try these first:

  1. Check the valve screws to be sure they are tight.
  2. Well, he's running CO2 so there are no other air source issues for too high unless he is using a siphon tank and drawing 100% liquid CO2, but even that should be able to be regulated properly (and also easily notice by the frozen feeling in your fingers when firing quickly).

Install the light Maddmann spring or cut a half loop at a time off the stock spring. I had the same problem when I went to a large diameter paint ball. The tight paint was above 315 fps with the adjustment screw turned all the way in. I switched springs and the problem went away.

OR, install a rear velocity adjustment.
