Today sucked. First of all the whole left side of my cars blinkers were not coming on. On my way to get that fixed, my car went straight to hell. When I put on the breaks, it takes far to much pressure on the pedal, and when I do it yanks the car hard to the left, then when I let off the break the whole car shimmys, then when I press the gas and the car yanks back hard to the right. Then as im going it sometimes starts to rev to high and its hard to get going fast, like the transmission is slipping. The soonest I can bring it to the shop is Wed. Anybody know what this means? Its almost like one side of the breaks are permenatly halfway on and only one side is really working. Any advice would be nice. Second, while calling the auto shop, I slipped and dropped my phone on my kitchen floor. Its a flip phone, and the top part came disconnected from the bottom, but the data-chords were still atached. I got it re-connected but it still dosent work. NOW, the company Cingular, said they would replace my phone with another for 50 bucks. But, I have an older model phone from back when I was with T-Mobile. Could I get my Cingular service switched onto that phone? At what cost? And would the fact its got a T-Mobile logo on it stop them??
Any help with either problem would be most gracious... |

Not cool, I was gonna say that. And I don't think phones from 2 different carries will work with the opposite carrier. |

Knowing Cingular, I'm surprised they arent making you pay something like $692 to replace it.

Wow.
Car issue... from reading the other post, you have a Jeep Cherokee? Or am I thinking of someone else? Doesn't matter I suppose. Did all of this happen all of a sudden, or has some of it progressed to where it is now? By entire left-side blinkers, I'll assume front and back? Left headlight/brake light work? Do they work with the hazards on, rather than just turn signal? If it's just the turn signals... then could be the switch. If it's everything on your left side, no matter what... then it could be wiring or just a fuse. Although I'd think if it were a fuse, it would be seperated front/back... not left/right. Check your manual to see the fuse breakdown. When was the last time you had your brakes serviced? Have you checked your brake fluid level? If they're spongy, you might be low on fluid, or might have air in the lines. All this coupled with the Revving and tranny slip? Holy crap. If all of this happened all at the same time, out of nowhere... I'd say someone was messing with you! One other thing to try before bringing it to the shop... try to retrive fault codes from your ECU (computer). Since Jeep is a Chrysler product... you may be able to check the same way I can on my '88 Plymouth. Might not. Depends on year/make/model. http://www.allpar.com/fix/codes.html Go there, see if you can retrieve the codes using one of these methods. For me, I have to do the on-off-on-off-on-off trick, then count the blinks on the check-engine light. Once you have the codes, compare them to the list given on a link on that page. If you're lucky, it's something minor and you may be able to fix it on your own. I'm hoping to do this on my van one of these days... already bought the parts, just haven't gotten around to installing them (two years and counting). O2 sensor, MAP sensor and Distributor. Cheaper to get the parts and install yourself, than pay mechanic-cost for parts and labor. If you can't fix it yourself, at least you'll have a heads up as to what the mechanic might find. Also did this with my Honda... tranny would cut out mid-driving and drop into first... which SUCKS when you're doing 50+ in traffic! The only way I knew to get back into gear, was to put the car in neutral while coasting, and restart the engine! Awful when you have 18-wheelers on yer butt. Using the code, found out it was a speed sensor. $300 part! Found one on eBay (new) for $25! Had I not retrived the code, I'd be out that much more money. Second part: Cell Phone. If your current phone (T-mobile) is working with your current plan (Cingular), then it shouldn't be an issue. They should be able to replace your phone no problem. One thing to keep in mind with the phone companies... they care less about the actual phone than they do your monthly payments and yearly contracts. The phones mean little-to-nothing... heck, they give em away for free usually. Good luck on both accounts. Edited by ShortyBP |

Glad you have a family-friend mechanic. They are GOD SENDS. I thankfully, have a good honest mechanic as well. I can't imagine how much money I've saved going to him, rather than someone else. Sounds like you're on top of things. And if you ever want to know more about your Jeep, check eBay/Half.com/etc for a Haynes Manual for your model year. Even if you don't end up fixing anything yourself for as long as you drive the car... Haynes manual is a great thing to have. Edited by ShortyBP |

Good mechanics are hard to come by. Now all I need is one that can work on scooters. I recently came by a very very old model Vespa style-scooter that needs some motor work, but I have plans for it never the less. Plans that dont need to be squashed by car repair bills and new cell phones. |

Oh! The smell! I forgot the smell! Whenever I stop and get out I notice the horrid smell of burning. You know that smell. Burning car smell. More the reason I think my brake is stuck in brakeing-mode. Edited by agentwhale007. |

Whale, the brakes sound like a problem with the master cylinder, and the boost thing. Can't think of the name because im very tired but it makes the brakes like power brakes. When it goes bad it's really hard on the pedal. I could tell you exatcly whats wrong I just have to get a mechanics book from my garage. I'm going to UTI (University of Technical Institute) basicly a mechanics school. Depending on the grades you get like B's allow you to further train with any European import like Audi,BMW,Volvo etc for free. If you get A's you are allowed to train with Porsche for an additional 6 months for free while they teach you everything about Porsche engines etc. So that's my goal. Is your scooter 2 cycle of 4? |

What would be causeing it to yank to one side when I break and then yank back to the other when I go back on the gas? The scooter is 2 cycle. |

Nokia phones should work with Cingular, as long as they support the digital network.

Well it's possible that one set of brakes on the right side of the car are at "half brake" but I don't think thats the problem. Now they have this safety system in place Im gonna try to explain. Your mastey Cyliner has two chambers for fluid. Number one and number 2. Now the fluid in number one crontols the front right brake and back left. Number 2 controls front left, and back right. Thus if you have prolblems with the number 1 chamber you would still have your front left brakes, and back right. Vice a versa. Now they does this because it's more safe and have the right, and left on one chamber. Or back and front on one chamber. Seeing it's more unsafe for stopping purposes. If the front left brakes was grabbing hard then the rest of the brakes it would make the car to want to go left. It's like when the front left tire blows out, the car will turn hard left. That's why it the most dangerous tire to blow out seeing you will go into head on traffic. Have you go off roading or hit anything hard lately? Your aligment might of gotten messed up. Like the camber or toe. But if there is a burning smell thats either the brakes of engine. Here's a diagram of the Master cylinder.
