It's supposed to be cooled, not frozen. you don't have to do it, a local shop or field should perform the chilling before they begin filling.

They're supposed to chill the tanks before they fill them, but some places dont chill them they they dont put in as much c02 and they rip you off.

no, however you do want to keep your tank out of the sun for long periods of time to avoid a leak in the rupture disc.

I stick it in the fridge about 5-10 minutes before filling. Fills so much faster.

CO2 to remain liquid needs to be cold.
Chilling the tank helps the liquid CO2 transfer without evaporating. If the tank is warm the CO2 evaporates and the pressure equalizes before a full transfer takes place. The tank will not be "full". The shop that fills the tank will either empty the tank to chill it, or put an oz or two in it and let it blow. That way the tank is frozen and the liquid transfer is completed sucessfully. It is not necessary to freeze it before going to get it filled. |

Actually it allows the co2 to remain liquid while you are filling it so it fills much faster.

If you do freeze your tanks make sure it is completely empty. Ya dont want ice crystals to form inside the tank from any unused co2. I used to freeze my tanks all the time. Heck I even dunked my scuba tank in ice water to help fill better. I live in florida and any advantage I can do I will use. |

Save up and switch to high pressure air. Heck the metal tanks arent too bad in price and youll save $$ in the long run and also help your marker as far as reliability.
