I've got one you you guys. A Quick Reply would be extremely grateful (Have a Six Hour Scenario event in 3 DAYS) I have a friend that has a Tippmann 98 Custom. Only add-on is a flatline Barrel. My Lil bro also has a 98 custom. He has a problem that has shown itself in my lil bros gun once. I'll explain, The problem showed up when my lil bro decided to climb a extremely dusty hill, tripped halfway up and his 98 custom took a nice slide down the hill. His gun started firing and after every third shot, the gun wouldnt re-cock, After he recocked it, the gun sounded like a cannon going off. then returned to normal for another three shots and do it all over again. He got it home completely disassembled the gun and cleaned it really good, and oiled it really good. Problem vanished, and hasnt come back yet. Now onto the main part, my friends gun. He bought it used off of ebay. When he got it in, gun shot fine, no problem at all. Him and my bro torn the gun down oiled it, the basic maintanance. Gun fired good. Two weeks ago we were at our local field in a awesome game of house assault when he yelled to me, his guns acting up. After three shots, gun didnt cock, re-cocked it, Fired, didnt re-cock. Well, after we got owned by a automatic gun, i went at his gun trying all the normal things, torn the gun down carefully, wiped all the old oil out and re-oiled. Test fired, still had the problem. Replaced o-rings, cleaned out the oil i just dumped in it, re-oiled, still has the problem. Got it home to my lil bro, he cleaned out the oil, cleaned the pieces, re-oiled. Now the problem shows up but not as much, but after the gun sits for awhile, it happens again, not re-cocking at all. Now my friends saying hes not gonna go to the event unless his gun is working. (one of those this is my rifle this is my gun type people) Hence the A.S.A.P reply would be grateful so we could get his gun in order and ready to go. THANKS Edited by shadowsniper158 |

Sorry Bout the sticky, new to this forum. I've been through the forums looking at what sounds like exactly this gun is doing, missing value bolts, weak springs, bad o-rings. Well, all the bolts are in place. I can guarantee that myself, changed all the o-rings with fresh ones, tested the springs in my brothers 98 c. We've tried fresh tanks also. I am actually thinking about going to a paintball retailer close to here and buying a 70$ re-biuld kit and try that. But we are both trying to fix this gun with out spending alot of money. |

compare his drive spring length to your bros, had this problem with a pro lite once it was a drive spring that got trimed down too much. don't overtighten the gun half screws if you overtighten them the halves pinch the rear bolt and create enough drag it won't let it recock. if this is the case you should be able to see where the bolt is rubbing on the gun halves. good luck

Look on the right half of your marker and tighten the two bolts that hold on the power tube.

We got the Gun Fixed, thanks for everyones replies. The problem was actually the drive spring. Its wore out. We noticed it when we fired the gun without c02 and noticed the bolt bounced when returning to the un-cocked position. We stretched the spring just slightly, enough to return power to the bolt. Works fine now. We are planning on getting a rebiult kit and replacing the spring, but it was a quick and easy fix. If anyone else has this problem, make sure you re-chrono the gun after stretching the spring, it will up your velocity by about 100 fps. Thanks again for all the replies. |

Yeah, your difinatly going to want to get a new spring. Once you move a
spring past its constant, it will never be right for long.

If you decide to stretch a spring like that, then you need to take an
extra step to ensure it will staylike that. Stretch it to the size you
want it. Put some water in a sink.
Take a blowtorch and torch the spring all over, nearly glowing is good. Then use plier and toss it in the cold water. |

Spring steel tends to get excessively hard when water quenched. Liikely it will atually break down the line. |
