im just starting to get into hardware and stuff. i have a few questions.
i wasent sure what type of ram i need for my computer so i pulled one of the cards. the card says 256 ddr pc3200 400MHZ. however when i replaced the card i notaced it said Dimm 1-4 on the mother board. im planning on ordering 2x 256 ddr pc3200 ram sticks 184 pin. im guessing i have 184 pin but im not sure. also is their a way to view temps without restarting my comp? also what are normal/safe temps? when i checked it right after start up it was 40C cpu and 39C system. before i left the bios it went up to 42cpu and 41system... |

Yea, PC3200 is 184 pin.
And for temps, download speedfan. I forget the website, google it. Edited by PlentifulBalls |

i dled speedfan and it has 5 temps...
ambient 39C remoat 1 33C remoat 2 120C HD0 37C hd1 44C -im guessing ambient is overall temp inside the case. -HD0 and HD1 my hardrives? i have them side by side that would explane why one is hotter than the other. -not sure what remoat 2 is but its got a pic of a flame next to it... |

ambient looks like your cpu. you can ignore the 120*C one, because
someone would be on fire if i was that hot. remoat 1 is probbaly system
temp.
My AMD Athlon XP 3000+ usually idles at about 45*C-50*C. Your temps seem fine. Edited by PlentifulBalls |

i would say "ambient" is cpu and "remote 1" is the case temp.
as for the "remote 2" temp, sometimes speedfan will pick up on a signal that it thinks its a temp sensor but it actually isnt. So yuo really should worry about that 120c temp. Besides if something in your computer is rrunning at 120c you would notice the smoke. i have 1 temp on my speedfan that says -48c all the time. My computer runs cold but not that cold. |
