Does anyone know if a nitro tank can be skrewed into the back of a 3 year old stock 98c and work?

Yes it can, it just needs to be High Pressure.

Theres hp tanks and lp tanks get a high pressure tank.

yes it can , just get a high pressure tank (800-850psi output )

Theres a regulator on the tank, a secondary regulator is optional.
