My uncle was having problems with his old 98 custom where the FPS on shots would fluctuate greatly so he gave it to me. You can get one or two good shots off, then the gun either doesnt recock or it studders really bad and the ball just rols out. The good shots you do get off have a fluctuating velocity.  It a has a vertical expansion chamber upgrade. It doesnt look like the tipmann brand one though.  After messing with it for a while i realised that if you turn it tot he right with the cocking handle facing up it fires flawlessly every time.  I havent opened it yet because my uncle told me that the man at the shop that put the vertical expansion chamber on said that you shouldnt take it apart with that chamber on there.  Is this true? Should I just oil the gun? If so what type of oil should i use? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Try these steps in this order:

1.Use extreme rage mineral oil/marker oil or hoppes oil to oil the bolt.  Put like three drops on it and also put some in the ASA and fire several times. If this doesnt do it then go to #2

2. Take the expansion chamber off and hook up th ehose normally adn then try it.  The fact that it works on its side is tellin me that it isnt letting enough co2 through when the co2 has to move up the chamber and the liquid is like not getting any gas to the valve.

3.  Fill your tank, not the likely soluton but possible.

4.  Try a new expansion chamber.  This one could have too many gas passages and so when you fire fast it takes too long for the gas to get to the valve cause it has to travel too far.  That would explain the stuttering and not recocking.  Not likely but possible.

5.  Take the gun to the proshop for inspection.  Check fo kinks in the hose or blockages and even a leak.  They will take the hoses and chamber off to check for blockages also but it is possible that that is your problem.

My guns name is Mr. Max in remembrance of my dog that got hit by a car: Tippmann A-5
Ricochet R-5
JCS double Trigger
Tippmann E-Grip
Flatline Barrel

Do you have the need for speed?

Lack of air press. Does this gun have the expansion chamber on the front grip? If so, it has a vertical adapter that has a partially blocked hole on the fittings. There was a problem with some of them awhile back. Replace the adapter or you could drill it out if your handy. There is a fix for it in the sticky at the top of this section. Another thing to check is that the holes weren't blocked by teflon tape or locktite  when the chamber was put on.

Classic symptoms of damaged or missing valve bolts.

The 2 hex head bolts on the right side of the gun that hold the valve in. If they are missing or loose, youll get every problem you listed.

not overtightening is so common, it should be common sense, not a sticky.

As others have said lack of oil could be a problem. Loose screws that hold the power valve in the marker could also be it. Or my best guess is a bad "O" ring on the hammer (rear bolt) so that there is leakage the prevents the bolt from being blown all the way back to the cocked position.

And there is nothing wrong with taking the gun apart with an expansion chamber on it. Maybe the shop that installed it is just trying to rip people off by making their customers come back to them everytime they need to do something to their gun, or maybe whoever told him that was just an idiot.
