ya i know. these kids also have spyeders (ewe) so maybe the internal parts are different and they can do that. appearently this kid and all his friends have done it. o i didnt mention i have the 98C. im leaving now to go get the spring. my gun is in pieces now waiting on the spring. ill wait for a good answer before i put the new spring in. they said they put 2 springs together and it took 2 guys to load it. one to hold the gun and one to pull the hammer back. anyway they said that it felt like u got hot with a real gun lol. hit the person and cut them open i guess. andyway thanks again. ill be back in a bit im gonna go get the new spring like i said

FIrst, try doing a search on springs and velocity. Also read through the Tippmann Products. Now, about how your 98C functions. There is available from Tippmann and other suppliers a rear velocity adjustment cap. That lets you change the ball velocity by increasing or decreasing the pressure on the hammer (rear bolt) spring. There is also a spring kit by Maddmann that provides several springs fo different tension. You select the one that puts your velocity in the desired range, then do your fine adjustment with the velocity adjustment screw located in the side of the power tube. The velocity of the ball is controled to some degree by how hard the hammer hits the pin which opens the valve. A weak old spring may not hit the valve hard enough to get the velocity up where it needs to be. A strong spring may cause velocity that is too high to be adjusted down low enough to play safely. Your velocity must be set to not exceed 300 fps. That is the velocity at which your goggles are rated to withstand paintball impact. Grabbing something out of the spring bin at the hardware store may prove worst than the stock spring. Or it may take your marker so high that you can't play on your local field. |

why dont you just get the maddmann spring kit? it comes with three different tension springs- light, medium, and heavy. the light one slightly lightens the trigger pull and lowers the velocity and uses less air, the medium is basically the same as the stock, and the heavy one increases velocity uses a little more air and i would guess that it would make the trigger pull heavier. ive got the light one in and it works pretty good. unless your having low velocity problems, i dont know why you would want to shoot faster. all it would do is make your paint curve all over the place and probably break in your barrel. and i wouldnt just guess with something at the hardware store. anyway, heres the link for it: http://www.doropaintball.com/AB1038101EQuick/shopexd.asp?id= 5139 |

I'd be very causious in doing this. It will be very dangerous if you're shooting in excess of 300 fps. So unless you have velocity problems, don't mess around with it. |

^^I think that with the velocity screw all the way out, it's ~400. But I highly reccomend that you and your friends put your velocity's back under 300. It will not be pretty if someone gets hit in the neck at 400 fps.

I wouldn't be playing with those kids then. Right now, paintball has the best safety record of ALL sports. It gives this sport a good name having a stastic like that. Now all it takes is for one stupid kid to shoot 400fps, crack someone's googles and the kid is rushed into eye surgery. It will make all the papers, parents will make their kids stop playing, and there will be a huge public outcry that this sport isn't safe. Paintballs are meant to be felt, so you know you're out, not do any damage. If you want to play with higher velocities's, go play with rubber bullets. ......*mumbles under breath* "read the freaking label on the marker. I'm sure it says something about serious injury and death may occur....." |

Ranger, It is really not funny. High velocity hits, even on clothing covered skin, can turn the flesh under the ball impact to hamburger. I have a hit on the calf of my right leg (through Levis) that has taken over 9 weeks to heal. Tests show that this kind of damage does not take place at 300 fps and lower. High velocity hits on bare skin may inject paint into the skin and blood vessels under it(infections anyone?). We have a friend we invite to play speedball when he can get off from his job. The same day I was hit in the calf, he was hit in his throat. He healed a bit faster than I did, but he is left with a ball diameter scar right next to his Adams Apple. Lucky he wasn't hit directly on his wind pipe. Ref later caught a player with a cheater board that was ramping first shot 300, second 400 and third shot at 500 fps. Don't know if he was the one but those velocities would certainly do a number on even protected skin. |

My 12 Ga Remington 1100 fires at about 1200 FPS on overloaded rounds, and that does a crap load of damage...400 FPS is not far off. If I was at your feild, and got hit by one, I would probably slap the kid out...my friend shot my brother at 300 FPS by accident at 50 feet when It had a fresh tank, and he droped like a sack of potatoes and his arm was, like Bruce A said...Hamburger. If you want to shoot faster, get a new trigger / sear spring, and mill your sear catch 1mm back, FPS wotn do diddly squat..Hence the reason your buddys are using welly-mart crap markers on cheap ZAP paint...You'll be shooting 4 BPS no problem, on a mech bolt / trigger system if you do what I told you above...And turn your FPS down..Don't be an idiot, use common sence...It's one thing to be running that high FPS by accident, but to be running it on purpose...You can seriously hurt someone, or crush their trachea or their larynx...Then they could die....Take heed to them warnings on the markers...They're ment to save lifes from idiots who crank their FPS up that high...Hell, I was shot with a Phantom from 15 feet away at 280, and my fingers went numb for almost an hour....Think what 400 can do. ..end rant
