Ok, I really need as much help as possible here. I am trying to decide between 3 guns. 1. Custom 98 2. Custom pro 3. A-5 The addition I will be adding is-- - Smart Parts Freak barrel system ( is this a good choice?) - Expansion Chamber - 16oz Co2 (Is there a better air system to use?) - vforce Morph Mask
I would really appreciate some great comments. Thanks, nathan |

Spudcrazy: Can you give reasons to your recomendations like why ditch the expansion chamber and what does the palmer stabilizer do? The 14" barrel is just to long. What is HPA?
Thanks, nathan |

acutally any barrel over 18inches causes drag on the paintball and reduces flight distance. so if you get a 14inch barrel its fine, just improves accuracy.

Last one first...HPA = High Pressure Air. Some people like to call it Nitro, because these HPA tanks are rated for Nitrogen, also. But I have yet to find a place that'll fill paintball bottles with Nitrogen. (Costco will fill your new tires with Nitrogen, though). HPA/Nitro is not suseptible to temperature variations, thus a more consistant shot no matter what speed you shoot or what the outside ambient temperature. 14" barrel, too long for you. J&J also makes a 12" and I think a 10". These barrels are only like $35 and they shoot as accurate as any $100 barrel I've shot against. Ditch the x-chamber, because if you go the HPA route, you won't need the x-chamber and some have even said it will cause problems with HPA. The Palmer Stabilizer is basically a regulator that will regulate the gas pressure going into the gun. With CO2 being temperature sensitive, the reg keeps the pressure stabil and makes shots more consistant. Palmer also says it "handles" liquid CO2. Plus, if and when you go with HPA, the Palmer can be used with that as well, for secondary regulation. Hope this helps. Ask more if need be.... |

Just remember that if you get a 98, you'll need to get a vertical
adapter to be able to use the x-chamber or stabilizer. The A-5 comes
with one already.

I never said they're the same, but they can both be put in the same tank. Nitro is Nitrogen, compressed air is a mixture of Nitrogen, CO2, Oxygen...althoughI'm not sure about the CO2 part. Edited by spudcrazy |

Alright... Custom Pro. Try to get the electronic Pro. Palmers Stab and a Compressed Air tank. Freak barrel is an excellent choice. I've heard the Morph is a good mask, but I love my Proflex to death. |

Spudcrazy: As far as the J&J ceramic barrel do they come in different bore sizes? If so are there two that are the best to get? I will not always have control of the field paint selection. Thanks for all of your help so far. The main reason for this purchase is for me and my 3 other brothers that want to be able to play woodgames and be a lot more accurate than rental and stock equip. Thanks. I know that Compressed air tanks come in a large var. of sizes. Is there a good size to get so you arent having to refill during a day of playing. Thanks |

You can get the J&J Edge kits, which are two piece barrel kits. They are the same technology (i.e. ceramic coated) and come with different bore head pieces. They are quite a bit more in price. I've played field paint only and have bought a variety of store paint. I've never had a problem with my standard J&J barrel being accurate. Some balls will fall right through (the barrel when not on marker), but Blaze seems to fit snug, depending on the batch. Even Marbs fit nice, but I have had some that are small, also. I'd say just get the standard J&J, unless your planning on competing.
Obviously, the bigger the better. 68/4500 seems to be the popular size, but I'd suggest a Crossfire 92/4500 if your going to be playing at home and don't want to run out to refill after a couple of hours of play. Of course, it also depends on how trigger happy you are... |

Just a little on the Nitro vs Compressed Air and CO2. Nitro is
compressed nitrogen gas and is dry. Water vapor will not collect
in the system causing some problems with the marker/ball release.
Compressed air is compressed air. Can collect water droplets in
the barrel and piston mechanisms and C02 is a good middle ground
gas. I have been using CO2 since I been in the sport (only 3
months) and since I have not seen any considerable issues, I'm staying
with it. But since I'm a newbie to this fantastic sport, I know
that I might be a llittle ignorant to the bennies vs cost of Nitro
systems with the markers. I play woodsball/scenario and I have
found that 20oz bottle was fine along with a sidearm, my play is
enjoyable.

^^^That's right about the condensation, but to a point. I believe most scuba compressors have dryers at the end of the line, so that when you fill the scuba tank (HPA bulk tank for paintball), most of the humidity is removed. Just like in a shop, I have a dryer at the output of my compressor, so that the tools don't get water vapor in them. Most of the problem your talking about, will be in the holding tank on the compressor itself....
