Yeah, sorry but I really don't know jack-squat about computers other than how to turn them on and get on the internet and such.
Is there much danger in downloading bad stuff from this place? *Edit* Post 5200, all quality, no fillers. Edited by Zesty |

I think that is a lite version of lime wire that is safe to install. Part of the problem with people getting free programs is that they come with prepackaged spyware and resourse hogging programs.
There are websites that will go through step by step instrutions on how to safeguard your computer to the best possible. Once the program is installed and you begin downloading files, the problem is bastards will mislabeled files or included ziruses and malicious files in Zipped up packages that arent supposed to be there. A good, updated virus protection software usually will catch these wanted files but you have to have the setting set to scan all downloaded files and have the program running all the time. Another option is to right click the newly downloaded files and clicking the scan option before ever opening it. As long as there is no discussion as to copyrighted material being downloaded, it isnt legal. Edited by Hades |

I use it to download music, but it isn't my default music player. I use Winamp to play music, Limewire to download it.

What the, honestly, I don't think these videos are illegal because I don't think really any of them are copyrighted....I have been downloading videos of Nissans and I haven't noticed anything that looked like a professional bideo or anything, just underground races and stuff posted up by individuals. I know the songs are probably illegal, but I don't really care about that. Just the safety, and if these videos are maybe illegal, which I doubt they are very much, but who knows. |

If you do a search on limewire under videos and put "nissan" into the title, that's basically what I'm searching.....it's almost all underground-looking stuff....like a dude races his car against a buddy and tapes it, and puts it on the 'net. |

How long have you been using it, and like how many files or whatever would you guess you've downloaded? |

You can dowload a lot of cool stuff, but the first time I downloaded Limewire all of my music from my windows media player media library was gone.

Yes, you understood my intended meaning. It sounds like you are using good common sence about what to keep on your computer, but there is always a risk of infections.

yeah, I know it's kinda just luck of the draw even if you';re being careful
I actually went to download a rather large video of what was labeled as something like "Ferrari vs Nissan 240sx turbo" So I got all pumped up hoping to see the Nissan 4-banger smoking a Ferrari, but instead it was a freaking HARDCORE porno!!!! Yikes!!! After watching it a few times I threw that trash out....the nerve of some people!

That stuff happens a lot. And most videos of LW have viruses anyway.

Although my preferred p2p programs are bittorrent and direct connect, I
like LimeWire for just finding individual songs and what not. I've
never had a problem with it. It doesn't have any spyware that comes
with it, and viruses aren't as prevalent as say kazaa. (although you
still have to be careful, as everyplace will have viruses). Limewire is
definetly one of the better programs out there.

It's java based so it's a bit slower than some other gnutella clients, they all connect to the same network.
