ok, i got tired of seeing dozens of topics about N2 tanks being posted so, i figure im gunna end it. (please notify me if my information is incorect) 1.Do I need anything for my gun, so I can use a Nitro tank,ie. drop forwards, regulators, remote lines, magical fairy dust...? -No, as long as you dont buy a low pressure tank(talks more about later on), you should be fine, CO2 and Nitro use the exact same pin-valves. 2.Whats the differance between a Steel tank and a Carbon Fiber tank? -Well, the matterials, Steel is usually used for smaller tanks, and Steel weighs more then Carbon Fiber, but since the Steel tank is smaller, its hard to notice, also the Steel tanks are cheaper. Carbon Fiber tanks are usually made of alluminum and wraped in Fiber Glass or Composite material, theyre generaly used in larger tanks however are more exspensive. 3. Do i need a High Pressure tank, or a Low Pressure tank? -well it depends, if you have a Low Pressure Kit in your gun, get a Low Pressure tank, if your guns is'nt Low Pressure, get a high pressure tank. 4. What sizes can i get Nitro tanks in? -Nitro tanks come in all differant sizes from, 48cu up too 114 cu 5. Whats the differance between HPA and N2? - nothen at all, just differant names. 6.Is a Nitro tank effected by outside tempetures like CO2? -No, Nitro tanks preform just about the same if your playing in -15 *burrrr* or 115. 7.How long will my tank last? -well it depends but in most cases, you will need to get it re-hydro tested every 3 years or so, and the maximum life is about 15 years. 8.Will my Nitro tank become cold like my CO2 tank? -No Nitro is a gas where CO2 has to CHANGE into a gas, so the tank wont get cold, in fact it will gradually warm up, but very slowly and not much warmer. |

Re: Using the A-5 Or 98 with nitrogen.
Ok, so you want to convert your 98 or A-5 to nitro (HPA), but don’t know what else you need. Here’s your guide to converting your 98 or A-5 to a nitrogen-operated paintball gun. Firstly, if you want to, you can run a stock Tippmann off nitrogen. All you need is a tank, and you can screw it in and go shoot people. If this is what you want to do, you will need a tank with certain specifications. 1. High output: The output on the tank has to be preset to high. This is the pressure that comes out of the tank into the ASA, and into the gun. It has to be set at about 800 or 850 PSI, so that the gun will still recock and function correctly. The other kind of tank is a preset low output tank. These are set to 400 or so PSI of output, and that is too low to run a stock 98 or A-5. Some examples of tanks that would work on a stock tippmann are this one, or this one. The internal pressure (4500 or 3000) doesn’t matter, just the output pressure. 2. Screw-in tank. The nitro tank has to have standard CO2-like threads to screw into a regular ASA. Both of those tanks ^^ also are like that. Most tanks are. Only specialty tanks for expensive guns and such are not screw-in. Ok, about the LP kit. The Low Pressure kit for the 98 or A-5 is completely optional. It will increase efficiency, lower re-coil, and some say it will improve the accuracy of the gun, but it is not needed if you get a nitro tank. If you do want the LP kit, you will need: 1. The LP kit itself 2. A nitro tank 3. A secondary regulator like an AKA Sidewinder. The LP kit makes the gun use about 300 or 350 PSI of pressure to run (this is why you need the regulator). Because of this, your nitro tank can be low or high output, but high output will work a lot better. High output is more highly recommended for several reasons. 1. You can use it on other guns. Especially if you have a back-up gun like a spyder or have a friend that wants to use your tank. That way you will still be able to get some of the benefits of nitro, and can use it universally. 2. The gun will run a lot better overall. The reason has to do with the regulator setup. If you have 800 PSI going into a regulator, the reg. is brings it down to about 300. This way, you can be sure that the difference from the input into the reg and the output into the gun will always be at least 200 PSI (which is ideal for the regulator to work). But if you have a low out-put tank, and are only putting 400 PSI into the regulator, the reg will only need to bring the pressure down by 100 or 50 PSI. This small difference in PSI will cause problems, and the reg will not work as well at high rates or fire. If you use a low output tank, you still need to use a secondary regulator. The 400 PSI from the tank is still too high for the LP kit and then your setup will not work as well because of the regulator problem above. Also, if you run multiple regulators, like a female ASA-style palmer stabilizer, and then a Sidewinder, your consistency will increase even more. So overall, high output nitro + regulator(s) + LP kit = best setup. And if you don’t like either of those options, you can run your A-5 or 98 with nitrogen, a regulator, and no LP kit. Hope you get it! Any more questions are welcome. P.S. -- I’m not really a nitro-specialist, I just put this post together from what I’ve learned. So instead of PMing me with questions, post it in this thread so everybody can see it. Good luck! Edited by Whazuuup! |

The differance between N2 and HPA is not the name. N2 is pure nitrogen. N2 tanks and HPA tanks can be filled with nitrogen or HPA
Yes HPA tanks get cool when you shoot, if you have a high proformance gun and are shooting 14 bps your regs and tank get cool. Steel tanks are not for smaller tanks. Steel tanks are for people who dont want to spend $150+ on a air tank. New HPA tanks have a hydro date of 5 years, older tanks were 3 years. HPA tanks and co2 tanks dont use the same pin valves, they use the same threads. Edited by 636andy636 |

^^ It's nothing personal. If this were allowed, a barrel FAQ
would pop up, a sniping FAQ, an R/T FAQ, etc. It would get out of
control.
That's why we have the Uber-FAQ! That thread is packed full of usefull information, and only takes up one thread's space on the forum. If you think this is good enough material for the Uber-FAQ (I personally think you need a little more info), and there isn't already one just like it, ask a mod if you can add it to the Uber-FAQ. I just posted so that if people ever search for this kind of topic they will hopefully get their question answered. That's the problem with the search button really. If you search for nitro, you're bound to get a thousand topics where all people say is "SEARCH NOOBZ!" So I hope this thread isn't a total waste! ![]() |

It is quite obvious that you did not - most of this information is already in the Uber FAQ. But, as has been noted, all you have to do is contact Reb. Maybe he will sticky it.

It's interesting you never go into a discussion about the differences between 3000, 4500, and 5000 psi tanks. Edit- Nor output pressures. That's kind of important. Edited by hybrid-sniper |
