i just got a 20lb co2 tank off of ebay. i called around to see who would fill it and found someone that just swaps it out.... he said that since im using it for paintball he thinks i need a siphon dip because the guns run off the liquid in the co2 not the air....is that tru or can i just use a regular tank without the siphon dip???

The gun does not run off the liquid, it runs off tha air. You don't want your gun running off liquid. So no, that's not true... Edit:Beat me to it^^. :) Edited by SuzukiRider987 |

I think you mean 20 OUNCES not pounds... But your guy has it completely backwards. There are some older guns that run off the liquid CO2, but all current guns run on the gas. Liquid CO2 is very bad for modern paintball guns. This is why a common upgrade to CO2 tanks is an ANTI-siphon setup, which is the opposite of what your guy is proposing. Most guns that can run on CO2 at all will run fine on a regular CO2 tank, without any anti-siphon. The anti-siphon is purely a performance upgrade. If you get anti-siphon, however, you can't be swapping out tanks - they have to be aligned correctly, and are specific to a particular gun setup. |

An ideal tank of CO2 that you use to refill your small tanks has a dip tube that extends to near the bottom of the 20 pound tank. This assures that the small bottles are filled with liquid. If the 20 pounder does not have a dip tube just turn it upside down. Some 20 pound tanks have no identification as to whether they have a dip tube or not. I have a bracket on my wall on which I hang the 20 pound cylinder either upright or upside down. When you cannot get more than 3 or 4 ounces to go into the smaller cylinder it is likely that the large cylinder needs to be inverted. Now, as for what the marker runs off, it uses only the gas vaporizing off the top of the liquid. Nothing but gas from the small cylinder should enter the marker. Nothing but liquid from the 20 lb cylinder should enter the small marker cylinders. |

you are exactually right Bruce, i put a bracket on my wall also, but most of the tanks i getdon't have siphon tubes, there for soda pop vendor shops. $10 for a 20lb. tank. i usually get 12/13 20oz. tanks filled from one 20 lb. tank. ![]() Edited by ekim98 |

Bruce and ekim (and the guy at the shop) are correct. You want liquid to refill the smaller tanks.
Turning the tank upside down is a good alternative if you build the bracket. This is how one of my friends accomplishes his fills. Or... if the guy at the shop is willing to provide tanks with dip tubes at no additional expense, and you don't want to deal with inverted tanks... might as well go that route. Be sure the tank isn't marked "Property Of" anywhere. I grabbed two 20# tanks from an old college job. Both had been sitting in the basement of my workplace for a couple years, so I grabbed them up. But when I inquired about fills, was denied... because both were stamped "Property of PepsiCo" on the tanks. If it's marked, your guy might still swap... but be forewarned that he might not. Good luck |
