Hey guys, I'm the girlfriend of a guy who's getting into paintballing, and I'm trying so very hard to get a gun for him for christmas but there are soooo many choices! AGHHH!! He has been talking about the A-5 but my non educated opinion is that the c3 might be better. Any suggestions?

If your boyfriend has been talking about the A-5, then that is probably what he wants. The C3 is a pump gun - that means that he will be severely disadvantaged in most games unless he is very very good, since everybody else will be shooting ten times faster than him. As much as I like my C3, I would strongly recommend that you not get him one for his first gun - particularly if he has his eyes on an A-5. Good luck. |

Yeah, if he has his eyes on an A-5, then get him that. The C-3 is a pump like Rambino said, and it takes significantly more skill to use. I can attest that if I asked for a semi, and got a pump, I wouldn't be pleasantly surprised.

Hey, I'm doing to be direct. Comparing a C-3 to an A-5 is like comparing an Longbow to a Compound Bow, two completely different feels. If he wants an A-5, then a C-3 is a poor substitute because well, it's totally different in so many aspects. The C-3 is a pump, propelled by combustion via propane. The a-5 is a semiautomatic, using air pressure to fire. Good luck. Hell's Oracle, Semper Fi |

Thanks guys...I guess I should just go with the one he has been wanting, but you can't blame me for wanting to get him the perfect one!
Thanks for your help though...I had no idea that they were both so different. Happy holidays to everyone!

the a-5, the c-3 is a pump marker, and like all the others said, huge disadvantage. I would buy the a-5 response kit for him.

OK so I went to the paintball place around here and the guy is ordering me a Tippmann A-5 in the camo style or whatever...but he showed me what he called an electronic trigger which he basically said is wayyyyy better. Any comments on that? Thanks again!

The E-Grip is a very popular upgrade to the A-5, and a very good one. I'm sure your boyfriend would love it. Some people prefer the RT (which is a mechanical alternative to the E-Grip), but I can't imagine that anybody would be unhappy about getting an E-Grip as a present. That's a mighty fine gift you are putting together. |

^^^^^ True dat. Unless he already has a mask, I would throw in a V-Force Morph before getting the E-Grip. A good mask = best bang for buck in paintball |

Also, he needs a CO2, or HPA tank. I would suggest a 20oz CO2 tank for starters. |

WOW thanks guys! Yeah the guy said that the electronic trigger uses a lot less gas than the response trigger and that it has regular, semi and fully automatic modes or whatever. I thought it sounded good...should I really buy him the mask or is that something he needs to be there to pick one out?

Masks can be a personal preference item, but it is also the first and most important thing to buy. If you buy him a quality mask, like the Morph, he wouldn't complain. But as also pointed out, if he has no gear then a basic 20oz CO2 tank would make him all ready to play. Those are pretty cheap - you could get the Morph and the tank for the price of the E-Grip. Then you could get him an E-Grip for his birthday or something. |
