I have tested and built a tube feed system for my 98c. It works well and I have it set at a 15 degree angle so it never jams.

Takes the hopper target out of the game and opens my sight across the gun WAY up.

However, this is not for everyone. Im not very trigger happy but I know others who are.

Ok, then tell us how you did it. Thats kinda the point of posting in the ideas section.

Most people use PVC pipes.

You coudl easily adapt a Phantom feed tube for this with a 90* elbow...

Well see the problem is is that it wont feed correctly with a 90 degree elbow. What I did was you grind away part of the bottom of the inside of the elbow to allow you to jam the tube in there with an incline.

The tubes I simply made by cutting up some hollow aluminum broomsticks and put a nail through the tube at one end to keep the balls in. I have black rubber chair feet that I place on the other end of the tubes when Im not using them. Overall this is great to get the hopper out of the way and get rid of a large target for your opponents. However, DO NOT do this if you like to shoot a lot!!

Only spent $15 on it.

im gunna look into doin that... sept im gunna have a spring or somthen in there so it will feed no matter how im holden the gun

Sure, but make sure it is very loose and has a low equalibrium.

Otherwise you'll smash your balls, and trust me, it sucks really bad when you smash your balls.

You just caused an idea to pop into my head (and it was one I can tell people about) with that last comment.  As opposed to using a spring, consider using air to feed the balls.  This could be done two ways:

  • The best way would be to tap off of the valve (like a response trigger) and run a microline to the back of the feed tube
    • Obviously the tube would need to be airtight for this to work
    • A vent at the elbow might not be a bad idea
    • For the sake of simplicity you would want a way to fill the tube that didn't interfere with the line
      • I would cut a circular hole in the top of the tube and fill from there as opposed to the end which would be sealed off and have the gas fitting on it
      • The reload port could be sealed in a number of ways, to prevent air loss (personnally I would use a slightly larger piece of PVC which would slide over the opening-maybe with o-rings set into groves on the ammo tube and a spring to hold it closed)
  • The other way would be to tap off of the knockout panel above the handgrip in 98 Customs that is used for the R/T
    • I don't know how much air could be siphoned from this location though
    • It would also require sealing the charging handle opening (maybe by using a Rocket-Cock and squirting sealant around it?)
  • I guess someone really enterprising could also drill their own tap into the side of the marker on the opposite side and just forward of the charging handle opening-but I wouldn't want to do it
Good basic idea you have there (both original poster and sneaky sniper)  I always enjoy the ideas that lead to other suggestions or ideas.

I would love to see you do that and have it be completely airtight and work on a 98C. Plus, how would you be able to quickly change tubes, or even change them at all? I dunno, I think you should rethink that. Try drawing it on paper.

  • You wouldn't change tubes, you'd just slide the feed port cover open and pour in more paint out of a 10 round tube or similar device
    • If you're using a stick feed, you probably aren't playing a style that leads to many "darn I just fired a 20 round burst and now I have a reload-related emergency" situations anyway
    • If the feed tube holds 20+ rounds you could always count shots and reload after about every 10
  • It doesn't have to be completely airtight, it just has to be sealed well enough to direct the airflow against the back of the line of paintballs to help move them forward
  • I wouldn't build this; it doesn't suit my style of play.  I was just pointing out ideas that your idea logically led to.  (Okay, I'll admit it, I do like a challenge, if I get bored, I might mess around with this idea.)
    • On that thought, If your playing style is suited to a stick feeder, you may not get in situations where you'd ever have to worry about needing reliable feeding for more than a couple of shots in a row anyway (which would be covered by the paint stacked in the chamber and elbow)

OOOORR just put a spring in their attached at the right point and have a disc type thing or somthen attacked to the part of the spring that pushed the paintballs forward so that the spring isnt applying all the pressure to 1 certain point on the paintball, and make sure the spring isnt putting a ton of pressure on the paint, itll deform it or break it

I definately think a spring would be a heck of a lot less complicated...

I just took the even easier approach and just put an angle to it.

The problem with springs in tube feeds:
  • Based on experiences
    • Personal experience with a PT Extreme-both the stock feed tube and a longer one I tried to get to work for a bottom-line stock attached set up for a CQB scenario
    • Also based on feedback from others who have played with such ideas or handled/shot the Longbow from SpecOps
  • Weak springs
    • Allow the rounds to move around quite a bit in the tube (probably not a problem with this set up, but I've actually broken paint in the magazine of the PT while running with it in a holster because of this) 
    • Also can cause misfeeds when engaging multiple targets (centrifugal force moves rounds toward front of magazine, away from chamber-again probably not an issue with this particular set up since the stick feed is towards the back of the marker
  • All springs put pressure on the balls
    • Using a medium shelled paint, I found deformation/breakage issues began at approximately the 14-16 ball range (if left in magazine for any length of time)
    • Thin shelled paint was a problem even in the stock PT 10 round mag
  • Side notes
    • I'm betting the paint damage issue is why SpecOps developed the Q-bow after they came out with the Longbow
    • A way to put pressure on the side of the paint like the Q-loader does would probably work great in this application, but reloading against that pressure would be a pain

to answer ur question about shooting upside down is simple, its paintball... IN SPACE!!!

and for the second thing, if you carried multiple magazines, it would be fine, reload em between games

I recently bought a battle swab leg holster and I'm expecting it to fit one of my tube clips fine.
