Get some large-diameter culvert. The culverts we built our course with are about 2 feet in diameter, give or take.

I'm not a fan of bunkers.  I'm kind of slow, so when I get in them I lose mobility entirely and usually end up getting eliminated in place.

However, I will offer the following bunker-related advice:
  • Some type of roof if possible to counter lobbed fire.
  • Crenellations to hide behind/shoot around
    • Works better/provides better cover for defense than popping over the top to fire.
    • Firing ports are good to, but if they're big enough to both see and shoot out of, then they're usually big enough for paint to come through the other way.
      • This can be fixed in two ways:
        • Some type of cover for the port.
        • Firing through one small opening while looking through another to see where the paint is going.  (This tends to reduce accuracy though.)
    • These should not be at the corners.  Leave the corners open to provide for better angle shooting.
  • Don't just leave the back open. Consider either some type of door cover or overlapping the walls to prevent a straight shot in from behind.  (I prefer the second, because it's usually easier to leave in a hurry if necessary.)
  • Establish multiple bunkers with overlapping fields of fire to provide mutual fire support.
  • Bunkers are best used in coordination with other bunkers.  When doing this you can use the mutual fire support thing I mentioned earlier in the following manner:
    • Each bunker fires out to the sides at an angle as opposed to shooting straight out ahead of them.
    • This allows each one to secure their team mates forward area while never having to expose themselves to fire directly from in front of them.
    • This works because most paintballers tend to fire straight at bunkers in front of them without thinking about the ones to either side.
      • The ones to the sides are usually farther away.
      • If the ones to the sides are roofed, they are also usually darker inside and it is hard to pick out targets

A fairly loose sheet placed at an angle. If you set it up just right you can probably get the sheet to catch the paintballs. Some of them may be reusable if they don't get deformed from hitting the sheet.

And I've always wanted to see this... Every time someone asks how to make bunkers I suggest this... A trampoline... Or anything thats really bouncy like that. I don't think the paintballs would actually bounce off, or at least not with great force, but I just want to see it. Its just unique.

Throw some logs on top of each other. Use plywood (even though you don't want to) it works as good as expensive stuff.

Gona agree with most of the posts here.As a member of a team that plays almost exclusivley woodsball, the best way to create a bunker is a little bit of hard work and a lot of tree choping.

Of course, we have about 300 yards of personal woods to mess around with.

Sneaky snipers idea is by far the best. You should deffinatly try it. Just don't forget to get some doggy masks. Preferably with thermal lenses, dogs tend to pant a lot.

Out behind my friends house there is a kind-of jumk yard and we found some stuff to use for cover there, I hid in the roof of a truck bed & opened the window to shoot out of. My friend found the plastic cover or body of a ski-doo & shout out of the vent slits. If there is some jumk try & use it.

I think it would be cool to have portable bunkers for senario games. It would be something that could fold into a backpack or something andthen deployed by a small group for an instant firebase. Having the portability is nice because you can create your own strategic defensive positions where you need them to be.

Seriously though, you can get crappy hay bales pretty cheap. They're stackable and should last at least one season. Otherwise get out the axe, a saw and some heavy clippers and start making brush bunkers. If this is in your back yard, I'd suggest something you can easily move, so the hay would work alright. Failing that go to home depot and look into pre-fab fenceing.

ok, in the woods where I normally play(My home field :P) there is an abadoned house/building that was used by miners, theres also collapsed mineshafts which work great(Just dont fall in the deep ones) and theres also small 4ft pits created by misfires years ago from our local arsenal (Anyone ever herd of the Picatinny Arsenal in the Rockaway/Wharton/Dover/Denville area in New Jersey?)
