I have an A-5. I was thinking of buying my friends 98 for 100 even. I was looking at upgrades for the 98, and I saw the cyclone feeder for the 98. Would it have been cheaper/smarter to buy the 98 then the feeder? Or does the 98 not even come close to the A-5 in balls/second? |

the cyclone will limit them both to 18 i think but get a halo on a 98 and give it r/t it will be faster because its not limited by the cyclone |

That's just what it's rated at. The fastest I've seen a Cyclone feed consistantly is closer to 12-13. A Halo B is rated at 23bps, but will feed closer to 19-20 consistantly. However, that'll certainly get the job done on a Tippmann, as the fastest I've ever seen an R/T bounce at was 18.6bps (goldwaved speed)
Either the Cyclone or a Halo will feed fast enough for you. I'd recommend going with the Halo, simply because when you get a new marker it will carry over to that as well |

They will both be capable of the same ROF assuming that tippmann hasn't modified the cyclone internally for the 98c. They are both mechanical semi-auto guns with single triggers and similar internals so they'll shoot as fast as you can pull the trigger, which should be about the same on both. If you went nuts with the 98c you could probably get it shooting faster than an A5 with similar upgrades but it all depends on what upgrades you choose. I've heard of people shooting 16+ bps with the A5 and an RT without any problems and that was a while ago. I've been too busy to keep up with paintball technology like I used to so there may be some new things out that give the A5 more of an edge or maybe that's the case for the 98 now, I'm not sure. I suggest you dig up the old threads comparing the 98c and A5 (I had a very lengthy one, as did a few other forumers) since they go into great detail comparing them when stock. You can also look around for info on their upgrades to see which can be modified to achieve the highest ROF. Bottomline though, they'll both perform about the same when stock but you get some extra features (not ROF related) with the A5. |
