I just bought one ... " Dead On X-Core 8 stage X-Chamber " and looked into it with a flashlight and looks like it is just a solid tube straight through. How is that an 8 stage? Looks more like a gas through grip. Any ideas? |

They must have accidentally sent you the gas-thru version.

there is a little metal piece at the very top of it that moves around and has a little slot on the side of it. I just thought it would have been bigger! Is that the 8-stage part?

8 stage means there is 8 chambers , they usually look like a funnel ,
you will have to take it apart to see them. hope this helps.

Sorry for the off-topic post, but I haven't been able to find much else on the subject, so...
Black, I noticed you drilled your rear bolt. Did you drill the rear bolt insert or into the side of the rear bolt itself? Also, has a lighter rear bolt made any noticeable difference? |

I took out the hammer "rear bolt" and drilled right through it with a drill press. Then I took it to my buddys shop and had him mill it to replicate the one Air Tipps used to make. I noticed a big difference! The kick of the gun almost went away completly and it cycles alot faster now. You can't even see the cocking knob move when your firing the gun. This if the best mod I've done to my Pro/carbine. |

Thanks , but I'm not familiar with the Air Tipps hammer myself.
Did it look like the Low Pressure kit bolt/hammer Tippmann sells for
98s and the A5?
Also, did the hammer of your carbine have an insert like the 98 custom rear bolt? That removable piece comprises a good bit of the rear bolt's weight. Lastly, did you need to replace the stock drive spring with a heavier one for the hammer to function correctly? Thanks in advance. |

No,No and no Its a solid piece of metal and I just drilled and milled to make it lighter. Didn't have to change anything else. Also I'm not really familiar with 98s or the A5. I'll look into it for you and if i get around to it I'll take a pic of my bolt to show you if you would like |

Dark Horizon makes a lighter Titanium rear hammer for the P/C. I have one, and I have not noticed any differnence in profromance.

A pic would be great. Thanks.
Hmm...conflicting reports on a lighter hammer. Anyone have any concrete info on lighter hammers/rear bolts? |

From My personal bench testing, comparing the Dark Horizon hammer to the stock Pro/Carbine hammer I have found that the difference in proformance is negligable. The only real difference I have noticed running the marker at 700psi is that the dark horizon hammer has slightly less recoil. But its not like theres much recoil to begin with on a paintball marker.

Maybe the bolt of the pro-carbine was rather light to begin with, so
the Dark Horizon titanium hammer made a minimal difference.
Interesting though that from pbreview.com, the 98 Lite and regular 98
titanium hammers have gotten a 9.9 and a 9.8 respectively. The A5
hammer flounders with a 4.0
Agreed that paintball markers don't have much kick anyway, but is there any evidence of an increased cycle rate or less wear? It seems that a lighter bolt would put less force on the valve, lengthing its life. The hammer should also logically re-cock easier also because the blowback gases are pushing back a lighter hammer. |

The hammer is considerably lighter than the stock hammer.
I have had no evidence of decreased wear. Without paint the Dark Horizon hammer seems to cycle a litttle faster than the stock hammer. However I have done no testing on this because my egg is maxed out at 19bps anyways. The titanium hammer could reock at lower pressures, if you have an LPK installed. But I can actually achieve a lower operating pressure with the stock hammer on the pro/carb because the stock hammer sits on the valve longer, thus increasing volume which allows for lower pressures. But without a proper volumizer, and LP valve I connot test operating pressure correctly. |

blackspike speaks the truth. my bolt is also milled like the airtipps bolt and it reduced kick. less moving mass is less moving mass

Is this the Air Tipps hammer/bolt?
![]() It looks like two holes were drilled about the same size as the cocking pin hole. This would be more difficult on a custom with the rear bolt insert. Then again, milling the heck out of the insert would lighten the bolt while not messing with the outside of the bolt which I have already polished. The question is, how much should I lighten it? |

Hmm... thanks a lot. I think I'll have to look at lightening the
rear bolt on my 98 Custom by milling the insert. Though, I have
to keep it somewhat balanced I suppose. A rear bolt is only $14
so maybe I'll buy one to mess around with.
