An ion would be best.  It's lighter, faster, and more consistent right out of the box for nearly the same price.

Ion is bunches lighter and the trigger pull is next to nothing, as opposed to the E-Trigger.

You might be able to mod it to be pretty light, but its still a sear tripper.

^^^That's right.  With the ION, you're just tripping a microswitch.  I actually had to increase the travel on my trigger, because just the rattle from running, made my trigger engage the switch and I ended up "outing" myself right in the leg....

Just remember that an Ion can't use CO2. You'll have to upgrade to HPA, and buy a good hopper to keep up with the gun. An E-Gripped A 5 is alot less expensive (can't use a hopper, doesn't need HPA, though it is very nice) and easier to maintain, but if you have the money, the experience and are going to be playing speedball alot, then go for the Ion. The other drawbacks of the A5 are the size, weight, and the huge blimp off to the side, although if you happen to be lefty you can use the bunker to hide it.

I don't know why but I always feel like A5s are under rated for speedball. 22 bps with a QEV and an Egrip is really faster than you need, and it doesn't burn 9 Volts.
Just to alert everyone, "Gun maintenace and repair" is misspelled.

I don't know about that, the Ion is pretty darn easy to maintain...
