    Posted: 13 February 2006 at 9:19pm

I am going to buy a Ion and was wondering what a good hopper would be.

Halo B w/ Rip drive seems like a little overkill with a max of 22+ BPS

Evolution II looks like the awnser for me, but was wondering what you Guys thought.

Thx, "The Fuzzy"

The Evo II is a great hopper, although the Halo B is better. You might not need the extra speed the Halo offers, but it's always good to have. So whichever you choose will be good.

Yeah, I'm not really in to spending $50 more for something I don't need.. Would rather buy a good barrel.  I will look into it further though.

Thanks

I have recently read the reviews for the EVO and looks like it could be not the best choice for me. Here's why..

Very Back-heavy, which is bad for the wrists, and We don't want that.

Very brittle, and easy to break.

Bad customer service (always hated VL's)

Bad battery usage

feed neck is slightly loose.

Please post comments about this and direct me on a path I need to go on. Thanks!

That is all true. Used Halo B's go for around $70-80 on the nation. Go with that.

Very Back-heavy, which is bad for the wrists, and We don't want that. Cry me a river? It's not that bad. If you have your gun tucked correctly into your shoulder, you don't even feel it.

Very brittle, and easy to break. Common misconception. The Evo II does have a couple weak spots, but unless you purposely drop it, then I doubt it's gonna break. I used my Evo II on my 98 for a little over a year, with nothing broken.

Bad customer service (always hated VL's) Honestly, I never had to deal with them, so I can't talk.

Bad battery usage Not that I've noticed. As I've said before, I used my Evo II for a year, played about 1-2 times a month, and never replaced the batt's. But there not that expensive anyway.

feed neck is slightly loose. Once again, I haven't noticed this. As long as the raceway is placed correctly in the hopper shells, and you've got the two screws tighened down, then it doesn't move around at all.

Please post comments about this and direct me on a path I need to go on. Thanks! My conclusion: The Evo II is a great hopper, but if you got the money, defiantly get a Halo B.

How about if I have no money after buying the ION and have to save up for a hopper? would the extra couple hours of work pay off for a Halo B? Or should I just stick with an Evo?

If possible, get the Halo. Then, you'll never need a new hopper if you get a new board or something that can shoot faster than 19 bps. Even if you have to work a little extra, then I'd do it to get the Halo. But if you have to get the Egg, it'll treat you well.

I'd look for a used Halo B on pbnation. Again, you can getn them for $70, the price of a new Egg. The Halo will outlast and outperform the Viewloader. It will feed more consistantly and reliably, not just faster. Unlike the Egg, the Halo is a true force feeder.

What he said^^^.

I personally just like the way a Halo looks on an Ion.
Or on any gun really. An Evo to me looks like someone took a nerf football and put a feedneck on it.
Personal preference really....either one will feed the Ion to its feed rate limit with no trouble.

Halo B for $85:
http://a-1paintballstore.com/index.html?cat_id=5&subCat_ id=9044&doThis=SubCategory&sort= [sort]

I'm not selling that, just saw it and thought I'd suggest a good buy.

Look for halo b at the bottom.

From an Evo user (me):

I dislike my Evo2, a lot.
It IS back heavy, (I'm not a wimp, it is uncomfortable, so there.)

Not very fast W/ stock board. (Be quiet about this, I have tested it extensively, and it IS my hopper holding me back, even on semi.)
