What is the Best speedball gun at a $400 budget? I like short barrels and fast guns. My current setup is:

A-5 with R/T, Stock barrel, 45/3000 nitro tank.

CP 1 Piece barrel
47/3000 nitro tank
E-grip with APE board
JCS duel trigger
QEV kit
Shocktech Rel. Bar
Shocktech Gas through grip

even though the DM4 is prolly one of the older technologys up there-

it is still the best

deff. go with the DM4

you could get a REALLY nice used E2 cocker on ebay for about 325. 

but id still go with the DM4 
SP Vision Imp w/ ALL NDZ internals, CP flame drop w/ on/off, Freak-AA tip, lowrise feedneck, NDZ Pro-Mag trigger, tapeworm, NDZ lpr cap, NDZ ti. bolt pin, maybe thats it?

If you can find a Dm4 with extras for 400 that is in good cond, then go
with the Dm4, but the ion is your best bet since you can get a new one
instead, unless you really need the performance of the Dm4.
When you wrestle with the pig you both get dirty......but the pig, likes it.

Well im first to vote for a cocker.. its what me and my friends use. and on paintballarehouse.com right now u can get a 05 prostock for $300... a prostock is just like my gun but i built mine myself and my bro has a ion that is no comparison in any way

dm4 and pm5's go about the same.  shockers are smaller and are usually around the same price.

for $300 you can get a mini orracle, which anhilates anyother mech cocker(besides a few)
