Ok I'm new to paintball so forgive my silly questions. I've been playing for a little over a month with an A-5, egrip, flatline, etc. I'm looking for a second reliable barrel. I was thinking abouth the Apex. My question, and don't laugh, is this: all the barrels I see online for the A-5 are threaded to be screwed in, but the flatline doesn't screw in. I've taken the gun apart many times and I know there aren't any threads, so do I need some sort of adaptor to use another barrel, even though they are made and sold for use on the A-5?

If the A-5 comes with the flatline out of the box, it doesn't include a standard A-5 Barrel adaptor(it should), only the Flatline one. You have to call Tippmann and ask them for a standard barrel adaptor, they will most likely charge you  for it, so consider yourself warned.

It shouldn't be that expensive though. I've been out of PB for a while so I don't know what new barrels are out now but IMO, I wouldn't get anything over 12in.

I've had luck with some of Smart Part's barrels but that was before they went all nazi everyone.

My son shoots the Smart Parts Linear and I prefer the Empire Twister. I don't think you could go wrong with either one of those or a Lapco Bigshot

you can go to CountySports.com.  That's where I had to purchase my adapter when I wanted to use a different barrel besides my Flatline.  It is priced at $13.00 and it is called the "tippmann A5 part 02-69, A5 barrel adapter".  When you go to Countysports.com website, type in "02-69" in the search box and it should take you to the part that you need, and the only problem is that there is no picture of it.  Trust me, its the part you need if you want to use another barrel.

Thanks for all the input. The dummy that I am, I found the adaptor in my basement. My A-5 came with the flatline out of the box, but the stock barrel was in the box and the adaptor was attached to it. I tossed it aside and never thought twice about it.

Now that you have your barrel adapter check these barrels out.

Lapco Bigshot
J and J ceramic
Custom Products Classic
All American
Freak Barrel Kit
Empire Barrels
Dye Barrels

Those all are great barrels, I would recoomend a Lapco barrel or a JJ barrel because they are inexpensive and very accurate.
