i know the palmer works fine for CO2.
but does it work with compressed air too?
also, if it works to regulate the CO2,
wouldn't one still need an expantion
chamber to allow more opportunity for
liquid CO2 to expand into a gas, or does
palmer do this as well?
so does palmer stabilizer act as an expantion
chamber too?

It does not act as an expansion chamber; it is THE best reg you can get for CO2. It has the best recharge rate and consistency ratio. It also works as a secondary regulator for HPA as well. You do not have to use an expansion chamber with it. Using one would be beneficial, though tough to rig up. The only way to use a Palmers and an x-chamber would be to use a Female Stabilizer as your ASA, and mount an x-chamber in your vertical adapter.

Actually you would want the X-Chamber first in the Airflow, because having the X-Chamber second in the airflow would mess with the pressure going into the valve. In that type of setup, I would use a Male Stab with a Female X-Chamber.

Anti-siphon tank and a palmers  Reg. is the best setup. According to the palmer's web site.

I have to agree with Snake, the expansion chamber needs to be before the Stabilizer. Anti-siphon is a good idea, but, when I was still using CO2, I could not find a shop in my area that wanted the liability of taking apart and reassembling the tank and its valve.

I bought a strap wrench and did it myself. It helped significantly, but I still found that at high rates of fire, the CO2 would boil up inside the tank and liquid would still get into the marker and spike the velocity.

The Stabilizer inproved things more, but it was still possible to freeze up things at high ROF. Good thing is that the Palmer Stabilizer is not damaged by a shot of liquid CO2, unlike most other regulators.
