    Posted: 12 March 2006 at 8:18pm
I bought a used A-5 with the E-grip on it.  The e-grip has been giving me trouble.  It does not fire when i pull the trigger, but when i release it!  Sometimes it just fires out of place, and goes crazy. It does this in all firing positions, and on full auto it will fire constantly and not stop. I do not know if this is something that can be fixed or not.  Does tippmann carry a warranty or offer a repair on these e-grips?

I'm hoping that there is something that you all can tell me, that I can just fix myself.
Thanks.

I read through some of these forums, my e-grip does not have the led light.  It must be an older one.  How much do u think that Tippmann charges for repairs?

Your e-grip is just the standard, non-WAS equipped model.  It isn't necesarily old, but just not the brand spanking new model.  If I were you, I would send it in to Tippmann and let them mess with it.  I already destroyed one brand new e-grip trying to "fix" it.  Or, you could get yourself an APE board like me

It sounds like the sear/hammer may be worn. Check them to make sure the edges are clean and sharp. If they are worn, call Tippmann and ask for replacements, they'll usually ship them free of charge.

Tippmann will probably fix it for free...they might even replace the board with the new one(very likely). The "fire on release" is part of one of the firing modes...but usually firing on pull and on release. The board has a glitch (yes, I was watching Tron tonight). Send it in for the best and fastest service.

Check the battery, check the sear spring tension, check to see if the solenoid armature is not binding.

Also check to see if any of the wires are making contact with the armature pin.

The problems you described are what mine did when my sear spring would not put enough tension on the sear to return the armature pin to the resting position.  The sear would stay in a half cocked position and would allow the bolt to cycle but without enough air to cycle the cyclone, or shoot a ball.  It chopped every ball that I manually jacked into the chamber.

Thanks for all the help!
It does not matter what mode it is in, it still just fires on the release.  If I turn it on full auto, it will start going off and won't stop, and I'm not even pulling the trigger.

I will call tippmann, I am hoping that it is not too much to have repaired.

It sounds to me like the trigger isn't actuating the microswitch properly.

Pop out the 2 trigger pins and pull the grip off the frame.  Pull the safety out and lift off the trigger assembly.  Check to see how it looks.

This is how you'd replace the battery anyways, so it's not like it'll void any warranty.  Besides, it'll probably do you good to see what it all looks like, if you haven't already.

Dont worry, I have taken it apart and looked at it very closely.  I have checked for loose wires and etc.  I live in the midwest, and have a hard time with baseball and school to get ahold of tippmann before they close.  The different time zones kill me.

Pressing down lightly on the armature pin (to reset the solenoid and to keep it from nailing you in the eye.. heh), what happens when you click the microswitch down and up?  When do you feel the armature pin actuate?

Yeah, sounds like a problem with the actuation of the microswitch.  You should check that your trigger is tripping the trigger correctly.

Keep in mind that the trigger will keep the switch depressed when at rest and release it when pulled.
