First of all, with my nitrogen tank (nitro duck) will I notice a difference if I get a secondary regulator?  I heard that the Nitro Duck regulators are very good.

Secondly, if a secondary regulator will do much, what brands and regulators should I look into?  It doesn't bother me if it's ugly, a strange colour, or for another gun, as long as it's a high pressure reg and it fits my a-5's vertical adaptor.

Here are a few I had in mind:

Palmers Stab - Too expensive (even used ones are expensive)
Bob Long Torpedo - Heard lots of good and lots of bad, inexpensive.
Air America ICE - Not sure if it's HP... can get it for like $15

Give me some other ideas, I'll be buying a used one.

Interesting that when it comes to a regulator anything goes...except price. You won't get better than the Palmer.

The secondary regulator provides a significant improvement in precision...it is a game of ratios. A good secondary reg nails the pressure so shot to shot consistency and thus accuracy can't get any better.

If you are looking for best price then don't get in a hurry. Keep checking prices like:

I found a "Vigilante" reg by Air America.  On pbreview people have said it is one of the best regs you could get.  Anyone use it?  The seller says it worked well consistanly on his ion firing 14-15 bps.

He says the gun fired with +/- 4fps.  Is this good?

If it was on an Ion, the reg is most likely a Low Ouput reg, and will not work with a Tippmann that does not have a LPK installed.

shoot it over the chrono, if you are not happy with the consistancy then get a secondary reg.

No you don't need it. The hp output of the standard HPA tank will run a Tippmann just fine. It is just that adding a secondary reg improves consistency and may allow you to optimize the pressure for your particular marker. (maybe operate at 500 psi rather than 850 psi)
