The end with the red o-ring on it will slightly stick out of the left receiver half. You will be able to push it in a bit to hide the red o-ring (i.e. safe) and out to expose the o-ring (i.e. fire).

what he said. think of it like this: put your gun down on a table or something so that "Tippmann 98 Custom" is facing up, loosen all the bolts, and take off the left reciever half. then put the safety in under the trigger in its appropriate slot, so that the red o-ring is pointing up. then put the reciever back on, and tighten your bolts.

Check out the 3D Manual thread; this will help you take the gun apart if you don't know how to. When I first bought mine I didn't know of any forums so I took it apart myself and it took me a couple of days to figure out where all the little pins went. This makes it too easy.
