I just bought, installed and tried the Cyclone Vortex Mod : it works perfect. No misfeed, no ball breakage. It performs very well and seems to increase the feeding speed. I shot a box without any problem. The installation was easy : just follow the instructions on site. http://www.techtpaintball.com/vortexmod.html Be just carefull on a few points : 1) do not cut to much on the little spring that goes inside the ratchet as explained in the rebuild point 1. You need pression on the axel. I just cutted one spring turn. 2) before to go to point 3 of the rebuilding, I had to enlarge a little the hole on the end of the piston rod. I have used a small rounded file. The new pin that connects the piston rod on the ratchet MUST PASS FREELY thru the hole of the rod. Otherwise you're gonna have to much friction between the ratchet and the piston rod. The cyclone wont probably not cycle if you have any friction on this point. 3) When you finish to hammer the new pin into the ratchet take a nail of same diameter than the new pin and unpoint it with a saw or wire cutter. Take a file to clean the unpointed nail. Apply the nail on the pin and hammer it completely into the ratchet. It works perfect and you reduce so the risk of slaming the ratchet with the hammer (use a small hammer). 4) I used Dye slick lube (grease) Be not affraid to use a liberal amount on all the internal parts. |

When you say you shot a box, did you mean a case (2000 balls)? I'm curious how this mod holds up after shooting 2-4 cases, which is the point that a typical plastic ratchet needs replacement. I'm also curious how this mod wears when used with an E-Grip firing at 15-20 BPS at times. Anyone have this mod that's looked at the wear on the mod after they've shot a few cases through the marker? |

Are you serious? I have shot around 20 or so cases through my A-5 and I have yet to replace the ratchet. |

It's happened to me already. I got 2 cases and it broke. I've read several reports on here and other forums about the same thing. Obviously I could be in error and the "silent majority" have their ratchets last a long time. However, I have the E-Grip and on occasion I've used 3 shot burst or full auto. But they're rare occasions, and I blew through a ratchet in just under 2 cases. I've got another on there and only have about 500 balls on it and it looks ok, but I've only used semi-auto mode with it. |

I have one with another on the way this is a very good replacement part/upgrade, lives up to what TechT promotes . 20bps verified , I'm going to test tomorrow for 25bps. A5 ,LPK, QEV, E-grip and A 98C , Cyclone, QEV, SR/T, LPK |

Inorder to really test for an increase in bps you need to either remove your QEV to go back to a stock setup, or know what the limits of the cyclone w/ stock parts and the QEV is. Otherwise you could just be getting 20bps thanks to the QEV, and not the new parts. |

At 20bps with the same set up minus the vortex the A5 would skip 1 or 2 balls intermittently, absolutly no skipping with the mod, and the cyclone functioned until the marker would not cycle when low on HPA( below 300psi) |

I've got a QEV and have a Vortex mod coming in their next batch due the beginning of May. If it's not already been done, I'll set up a test with and without the QEV. |

I shot a full box of 2000 without any problem. I will see on the ratchet after 4 boxes if there is any worning on the ratchet. I do not have any appliancies to test the rof speed. But it tooks a few seconds to empty my R5 Ricochet hopper... My e-grip(no WAS) is set on max speed in turbo mode...

25BPS testing: Ok I tested the A5 at varying capped speeds ,W.A.S boarded set on automatic. As stated earlier the marker shot at 20bps( with Vortex)(skipped a couple with out vortex) verified with crono that can also count BPS. GUN setup: A5, LPK, Palmers set @ 300psi, E-Grip W/W.A.S. board, QEV, 1/8 hose for cyclone. velocity = 285+- 5. first test : 27BPS capped auto, Outcome- shoot down occurred had to set Palmer's to 350psi. T2, 27BPS capped auto, 350psi: crono registered 27bps for a short spurt , ball skipping, and shoot down after 1st second. T3, 25BPS capped auto, 350psi : crono registered 25bps for almost 1.5 seconds, some skipping , and probably some shoot down. T4, 23bps capped auto , 350psi: crono registered 23bps, a couple (2-4) of skipps test lasted 2.5 seconds, no apperant shoot down. T5, 22BPS 3 shot ramping, 350psi: crono registered 22bps, no skips. Conclusion: With the gun set to as high as 27bps , the gun will go that fast but in very short under 1 second burst, good for advertising but in reality not a real number. As the BPS was reduced the length of time the gun would actually hold the desired speed increased, I will cap my sons A5 to 20BPS as this is still very fast and at this speed reliable. The Vortex did increase the speed/reliabuility about 4BPS , being Aluminum I don't believe it will break like the stock unit Edited by cus98tom - 29 April 2006 at 5:46am |

Had an A-5 for a couple of years.
Probably about 20 cases of so through it in that time. Egrip on turbo most of the time. Have never broken a ratchet...or anything else for that matter (runs to knock on wood). |
