latley I have seen a bunch of posts on silencers for paintball markers. First off, it's a paintball marker not a paintball gun as far as the ATF is concerned. Second, YES any type of silencer is illegal, unless it is registered with the ATF(alcohol tobbacco and firearms). If caught with a non registered silencer you will face a mandatory 10 year sentence in federal prision and is a non probationary offence, which means you serve 10 years, even if you have no prior record. So if you really need a silencer any have some extra cash, There is a one time fee of $200.00 to register it, also under this registration you will have the right to own a fully automatic firearm or a firearm silencer just to name a few. Anyone interested in the laws on paintball markers can go to the ATF web @ www.atf.gov . or call your local ATF office. It should all be clear as mud now.

And you know, there are bound to be ATF agents that play scenario ball. Kinda suck to go to a big game and get arrested at the lunch break.

Anyway, build one if you want to, I would!

You can also get the same permit to build one from the BATFE! Why would one want one for a paintball gun.

$200 to make one, so does that mean one can purchase a silencer if it is from a licensed manufacturer?  I just believed that silencers were illegal period.  The Flatline on the A-5 is extremely loud compared to ported barrels, so in my opinion the Flatline would benefit tremendously from a silencer.  Anyone know of a legal silencer? 

I think the law also suggests that a silencer is legal if it does not reduce the sound of a "firearm," which does not include paintball markers.  So it can reduce the sound of a paintball marker just not the typical firearms.

As the BATF has explained, if your supressor can be removed from the paintball gun, or the barrel it is built on can be detatched from the gun, then it is a firearms supressor. It and the barrel has to be permantly fixed to the marker, and not be able to be removed to not be considered a firearms supressor.

Not exactly since when the ATF was able to cut off a "permanently" affixed silencer, and put it on a 22 caliber, they still saw it as illegal.

What I was going on was information directly from the BATF that someone had posted (letters). THought it was on this site, but cant remember.   But, MyForce, you do have an extremly valid point. That was not discussed in the letters that were posted up to and from the BATF. But it stands to reason you are correct.

Man I wish I had book marked those threads, and remembered which site it was on, if not this one.

you must have read that wrong. you do pay a 1 time fee but it is per silencer, i think their is also a 200$ tax stamp on short barreled rifles and a few other firearms. however you need a class 3 licance to buy a full auto/select fire or "any other weapon"

One registration fee covers everything!!!!!!! Catch is they want to konw what you have in your house. Each item has to be registered when you get it, But they all fall under the same permit. So reguardless 1 silencer = $200.00 fee  10 silencers + fully automatic firearms= $200.00

Nope.  The tax is for each item covered as a class 3 firearm or weapon of destruction.

This is clealy defined on the application for your class 3 licence.  If you don't have one, please stick to what you know.
