Is the A-5 a gas hog? I was thinking about getting an A-5 w/ Egrip and a small/cheap nitro tank. i went to a place to get a price and the guy told me that the A-5 (mainly the cyclone on it) uses massive amounts of air and that co2 would not work with the egrip.  It sounded to me as if this guy was trying to get me to buy a bigger (and MUCH more expensive nitro tank) he stated that the smallest I should use for an a5 would be one that costs $220ish, when i was looking to spend like $80 on a tank. I think the cheap one was a 48/ 3000 and the one he was suggesting was a 68/4500. Just wanted to check the validity of his statements. I figured A5 owners might be able to provide some advise.

Whatever guy you talked to must be half retarded. The A5 uses excess CO2 to power the cyclone system. It hogs no more gas than the next CO2 gun.

your propellant all depends on your local availability, yes air is better but your a-5 will do just fine on c02 also. be realistic, you wll only have a freeze up problem if you shoot excessively in the full auto mode, play financially smart but most of all have fun sometimes its more fun to spend less money

co2 will work- it will just get a bit cold

and get a 72/3000 from pbgear.com for $60ish(?)

47/3000 wont give much

Yea, according to what this guy said, the Egrip WILL NOT accept CO2 at all. (when he said this, i began to smell BS).  he also stated that the A5 would go through a can of nitro in 1.5-2 hopper with the cyclone (i also recall that with tthe cyclone and the rt, it uses Excess gas, not extra gas as someone stated previously)  My only issue with nitro is I am lookin g for a tank that is under ~$90 (like i said, the one the guy suggested was $219) and he implied that he would not sell the marker to me unless i bought that tank.... now one of my friends bought the exact same thing (a5 egrip with the really small nitro can) from them and they didnt say crap to him about it being a supposed gas hog....

hey guys. the cyclone feeder operates on the ezhaust gas from each shot fired. this gas would normally go no where, the tippmann engineers thought it would be great to put this wasted gas to good use hence the cyclone feeder evolved

Someone is playing you for a fool. Everyone I know runs their A-5s on CO2 without a single problem whatsoever, no gas hogging, nothing. Many of them use e-grips and it works perfectly fine. In fact, the E-grip has nothing to do with the gas of the marker... it's all enclosed in the grip frame. You should start shopping elsewhere.

Me concur... The onlything is they had the stuff i needed pretty cheap (A-5 with egrip installed for like $285), but then again, if teh guy is gunna be an ass, maybe im better off paying a little more at a place where the people are better and not trying to make me buy a $219 tank when im only lookin to spend ~$90ish.  I have used a m98c with a RT before with co2... the only time it ever froze was in the winter ~20degrees F.  I actually had to TRY to make my marker freeze up.  I just sat there and emptied several co2 tanks (most had only a little left in them) rapid fire until it froze up... I really dont plan on needing to shoot insanly fast when it is really cold out, so i should be good with co2, but ill probably get a nitro tank anyway.

CO2 is supposedly only usable, with desirable outcomes, in 50 degrees and up (fahrenheit).

I just thought of something else regarding what the guy was saying, he was calling the cyclone system the Carosel (sp?). Now i could see someone maybe calling it that, however someone who claims to know everything about paintball and A5s should probably know that it is called a cyclone, no?
