Howdy all,

I've been reading your posts with interest.  This is my first.  Here's my story (and I may or may not stick to it:)

Both of my kids have Spyder Victor II's and are very happy with them.  So far, just backyard fun.  I'm looking to get into the sport as well, but I think I want a better gun.  I was leaning toward the 98C, due to it's popularity, looks, and the fact that it is highly customizable.

Now I see that there is a 98C ACT.  Some places are selling both for the same price.  WTF?  Which way do I go?

BTW, I have played several times, but always with borrowed or rented guns.  This was was back in the late '80s, and early '90s.

I'd appreciate any feedback.

Thanks,

Davisdog.

ACT means anti-chop technology. The ACT would be a better deal because it will keep you from chopping paint.

Deffinitely get the ACT version.

The ACT is just a 98C with the new Anti Chop Bolt system in it. Buy that, because you can't (currently) put an anti chop system into an existing 98C.

Yes, but someone who can't figure out the difference between the ACS and the regular 98C is not likely to attempt a mod like that.

Modifying my gun(s) doesn't scare me at all.  I've spent many years in manufacturing and know my way around a work bench and tool box.

I've modified several of my firearms, so I'm sure I can handle doing the same to pneumatic guns.  That said, if I can get something for the same money that doesn't need a mod right away, that's what I'll do.

After checking out the Tippmann site, it looks like the ACT version is all they make now.  With that in mind, seems kind of silly to buy the previous version (as long as I'm paying retail for a new gun.)

Yeah, it'd be easier to just get the ACT anyway.

There's plenty of other mods you can do to the 98, if you so choose.

Need to drill a hole for the extra spring if you want a stock. Tippmann only has 1 stock made for ACT and you can't buy it alone(al least what I have seen) But all you need to is drill a small hole above the hole that is already in the stock. If you want a pic, I will post on request, I had to do it myself.
