If they are both brand new, they should work together.  However, if the barrel (or the gun) were sitting in a warehouse for a couple years, then, it's possible that they may not work together.

But, all is not lost if that is the case.  This link is to an adapter which will enable you to overcome that problem.

well, some 98 customs have the same barrel threads as the old model 98's. a few years back(i'm not sure exactly), there was a barrel thread change. it wasn't a huge difference, but a change nonetheless. i'm pretty sure at that point, Tippmann also changed the internals (ie the spring and sear spring). if you have to loop the sear spring around the sear, and also loop it around one of the small pins, then you(like me) have the old style 98 customs. in this setup, the sear stretches the spring when you cock the gun. the newer 98 customs have the custom pro internals, where the sear spring works (and looks) very similar to the trigger spring, where the sear compresses the spring when you cock the gun.

hopefully that helps.

is the newer custom98 thread the same as the model98s thread though? or was it changed from being like model98 thread to its own new style. did they just make the model98 and custom98 barrels interchangeable?
