We should compile a list of the best mods and upgrades available for the 98 Custom and someone should make the gun!

E-Bolt
Halo B Hopper
  with Cheeta Board
   (Q-Loader if you can
     find used cheap and you
      play front)
HPA tank (68 to 90 ci)
  at 4500 psi
Palmer Stabilizer
Low Pressure Kit
  complete with
    Volumizer

If you scrounge a bit and buy what you can find on Ebay
all should stay under $500.

This would become quite contreversial as is everyone has their own opinions and ideas that they think are best and would turn into arguing over what is best.

No, not true. Barrel choices are controversial. The quintessential optimization to the 98 Custom to bring it to the level of a Premo-Electro-Pneumatic is not up to debate. You might discuss which E-Bolt kit offers best performance, but that is "which" E-Bolt, not "whether" an E-Bolt.

Debate as to which loader is "best" could be controversial, but the suggestion(s) I made will never leave the player with regrets.

Low pressure kit really is icing on the cake when combined with the E-Bolt. In fact, full value of the LPK is not realized without the E-Bolt.

Palmer, there is just none better. And as for the HPA tank, size that fits your playing style is all that is important. Just find the best priced one, not the hyped, and thus expensive, name brand ones.

^^You said quintessential!

What about the Ebolt makes you realize the full value of the LPK?

My ebolt broke

My ebolt broke

With the standard bolt/LPK bolt you can drop your operating pressure only so far because you have to maintain adequate blow back gas to cock the hammer. It is therefore difficult to get dependable function at pressures below 350-400 psi (which is also what Tippmann says).

Since the E-Bolt does not need any blow back you can reduce pressures and adjust dwell and ram pressures to drop operating pressures WAY down. I am running my marker consistently, with the Hammerhead barrel, at only 140 psi, Nelson Hemorrhage paint getting 275 fps velocity. (with a ball closer to bore diameter I might get even lower)

The very low pressure appears to be quieter downfield as my targets don't jerk back behind their bunker when I fire as they did when I was running 400-500 psi.

i'd say one of two things: one being Bruce's idea. the other:
super R/T
Cyclone(QEV and Vortex)
Palmer's
Flatline/J&J/Bigshot(you choose)
Milling all over the place

98 Custom
milled;painted;J&J Ceramic;X-Chamber;R/T;Cyclone.
