    Posted: 07 August 2006 at 7:53pm

I’m been having some problems with my new Super R/T and QEV (This problem has been happening also with the regular R/T so it's not the Super R/T's fault). The Super RT and the QEV mod are installed correctly on my 98 Custom without any leaks. Here is a pic of it: http://putfile.com/pic.php?pic=main/8/21819063890.jpg&s= f10

àààAnyway my problem is that the RT metal piston won't push the trigger forward to get the sear to return to its regular position (which is resting over top of the metal piece that sticks out the back of the trigger. That metal piece sticking out of the back of the trigger pushes the sear up so the rear hammer can be released).

The RT piston just comes out, hits the trigger, and tries to move the trigger forward but it can't.  Once it tries to push the trigger forward (but is unable to) the metal piston from the RT just bounces back into its cylinder.

Therefore the sear doesn't reset over top of the metal piece on the back of the trigger and therefore the sear is not ready to be tripped again. To trip the sear again I must release the trigger and let the trigger spring pull the trigger forward like a regular semi-auto, instead of having the RT push the trigger forward.

To understand more: http://putfile.com/pic.php?pic=main/8/21819333699.jpg&s= f10

(RT should return the trigger to have sear resting on metal piece behind trigger, like it is in that picture).

When I was shooting I also didn't feel any air coming out of the QEV.  So I don't know how much air is getting to my cyclone and r/t but there is enough air to keep them working. It’s just that the r/t just doesn't move the trigger forward like it should.

I tried messing with the screw to adjust the ability to sweetspot and the speed of the RT trigger. That didn't work.

I have tried changing the strong/heavy sear spring that came with the r/t kit back to the lighter stock one. That didn't help either.

Here is the setup I had testing it out.

My Setup

Tippmann 98 Custom

12 oz Pure Energy CO2 with Anti-Siphon and Smart Parts On/Off Valve

Drop forward

J&J Ceramic 12 inch Barrel

Cyclone Feed

Tippmann Expansion chamber with Vertical adapter

Response Trigger

Dark Horizons Titanium Hammer (56% of the weight as stock rear hammer)

Shocktech Superfly Bolt

Dead On Paintball Aluminum Powertube

Double trigger

BT Sealed Bolt

Rear Velocity Adjuster

Dye Stickies

Mods:

Polished Internals

Pen Spring Mod

Please could someone help?

Open your Marker , pull out the piston from the R/T cylinder check for debris. Clean the cylinder out , put two drops of oil into the cylinder and clean the piston and oil it as well.

I just tried that, there was no debris, but anyway I still cleaned and oiled the cylinder and the piston and o-rings on the fittings like you said and it's still not working...??

Try turning the RVA all the way up and turning the main velocity adjuster
down. That way you can have more blowback and the same velocity. Also,
replace the titanium hammer with the stock hammer and see if that does
anything.

I already had my RVA adjusted all the way up.  And was chronying at 260fps.

Switching to the stock hammer didn't really do much it help a little bit.  I was able to have the trigger bounce forward a bunch of times and I was even able to sweetspot for like half a second or so using the stock hammer.  But multiple times it didn't push the trigger forward. And I really had to push the trigger really slow backwards to be able to get the piston to hit the trigger forward again.  Pushing it super slow won't be useful in speedball.

I also even tried putting the heaviest maddmann rear spring (red) in instead of the stock spring and it didn't help. Actually it almost stopped pushing the trigger forward completly. Maybe because at that time I was low on air but even still.

Does anyone know what is wrong with my response trigger and what I can do to fix it.

Thanks

Screw in the response trigger screw all the way when you do this the trigger should get really hard if it doesnt something is wrong. if it does well start unscrewing it about a quarter of a turn each time then test.

I tried doing this today and my gun can sweetspot sometimes (for maybe half a second) when I turn the "ROF and sweetspot adjuster screw" like all the way in or almost all the way in.

The trigger would still not get pushed back to the "ready position" <-- (I explained what ready position is in the 1st paragraph). So I would have to let the trigger spring pull the trigger back to the ready position. (It happened almost after everytime I sweetspotted for any period of time) and sometimes it just wouldn't get pushed back to the ready position by the RT piston just because it just didn't want to be pushed back to ready to fir position even it I hadn't sweetspotted.

Oh I didn't really notice any difference in how hard the trigger pull is when I turn the screw in the middle of the flow valve (ROF and sweetspot adjuster screw) all the way in.

I don't know what the problem is?

I checked for leaks and there are none.

if you have the flow control screw threaded in ALL THE WAY, and you don't notice any difference, then there is a bad seal somewhere. when the flow control is closed, you should be able to fire 1-2 shots, and then it should be VERY hard, if not impossible, to pull the trigger again.

i'm not sure what else to tell you.....
the fool proof way of troubleshooting always works to pinpoint a problem: it involves returning your gun to stock form, and test fire it. this proves that your gun itself can function properly without any modifications. maybe that'll be the problem. if it does work fine though, you'll need to install one mod at a time, testing the gun after each mod (but, as you can see, you'll need time to take apart, re-assemble, and fire your gun several times, so you'll need plenty of time, and quite a bit of air, too.)  but anyway, if you have time, i'd STRONGLY recommend this. it's the best way to pinpoint a problem.

It sounds like your particular setup just wont allow it to work due to a lack of blowback pressure.

Also, consider checking the T-fitting for obstructions on the side of the RT. Try reversing the sides that the RT and QEV are connected to (RT to QEV old port, QEV to RT old port).

The final thing to do, is put everything (and i mean everything), back to stock. Then add the upgraded parts one by one until you find the problem. Its very, very time consuming, but if all else fails, try it.

How could a tippmann just not have enough blowback pressure for work an RT?  How does that even happen?

Umm I tried getting the super RT hose off of the fittings with a vise grip and I seriously mean that it is next to impossible to get off the super RT hoses once they are on their fittings.

But I can tell you that I had this same problem when I used only my RT, no upgraded hoses to make super RT no QEV just the regular RT hoses and fittings and I had the same problem so I doubt that it is the RT.

So I guess that I will have to take out everything and put it stock and then if I can't find out why it doesn't work what would I do send my gun and all my extra gadgets and pieces and upgrades to them with a typed letter explaining what my problem is? Is that what I would do? I would also send it to them and have a tracking number with it.  And I'd take pictures of everything I sent to them.

I think even if I put all stock I will just realize that it doesn't work once the RT is in. THe gun has always worked and still does it's just the RT trigger that doesn't push the trigger back to the ready position.

Ya but I had this problem before I upgraded the hoses too.

Do you have any idea why yours is doing it?

Take it apart lue the fitting with some white lithium grease. make sure you put it back together right. Screw the adjust screw in and try to shoot. for my sweetspot i barely got out 3 turns.
