just had an idea a couple minutes ago....... I was thinking, what if someone made a gun that instead of having a bolt, it just propelled the ball completly by the air. I know that the main problem with this is the fact of air going up into the hopper because its not sealed. however, what if the gun had an integrated hopper/feeder that the arms on the feeder would force a ball into the chamber and then the chamber would be sealed up by the arm once it stops. I know this doesnt really make much sense when first describing it. I don't really know how to explain it very well. but the feeder would rotate kinda like the cyclone, although oriented differently, and when the arms would be in the "standby" position while the air is going through the arm would seal the chamber and then rotate again to chamber the next ball. I know I'm crazy and it probably wouldn't work, but let me know what you think |

it is a good idea, you kinda lost me on the whole integrated hopper/feeder but i think i see ur direction. are you proposing something like a drum feeder mounted over the feedport (drum feeder like on thompson's). and there would still have to be somekind of bolt though much smaller and differently configured if to do nothing but to open the valve and let the air out.

I think a gun like this has already been made.

just thought of another way to explain it. think of the Tippmann A-5. now imagine it with no front bolt. now, imagine the cyclone feeder slightly modified so that the ends of the arms were made in a way that they would seal the chamber after a ball is fed. so basicly the cyclone would feed a ball, seal the chamber. the air would go through the powertube to propel the ball, the cyclone would turn to feed another ball and then the cycle would begin again. thats basicly what it would be like, although somehow modified so it would be center feed, since I know how much speedballers hate the cyclone with its huge target on the side |

Um... The Nova just moves the bolt over the ball. There is another gun that uses a "Trap Door". And then you have the Alien (resurection, reincarnation, I forget the name but its a funky looking Alien marker.)
Good in theory, but its hard to get right. |

I thought of the same concept on no bolt. Only thing would be is that it would have to be fed into the barrel because barrels have that part at the beginning where it has a smaller diameter inside. I am sure it can be done/has been done. The only real use for it is almost no kick and faster rates of fire.

I think you are on the right track. Machines that have as few moving parts as possible are always more reliable in terms of breaking down or not. It whould also make the marker require far less maintenance.

Hybrid, hence the trap door.
It doesnt use anymore gas than any other gun, why would it? Oh, and chopping happens with any gun you use(assuming no anti chop system), it doesnt matter if it has a bolt or not. The problem with the cyclone type feed system with no bolt, is sealing the breach, its just difficult to engineer. |

the feeding system could be fixed by a simple powerfeed... i used to have a nova, and it didn't have a bolt. that thing was amazingly unique. 14bps stock with a mech.... and when it shot, part of the barrel came out with it... HOW COOL IS THAT? didn't they also have a marker called a "bone daddy" or something like that, but it didn't have a bolt... or am i on drugs... another thing, the vid said "good distance"... does that guy know what he's doing? |
