lol. He doesn't deserve to have a gun. If you are wondering how to get your hopper on, you need an elbow for it. Other wise, it is as easy as pushing down the front site button and takiing off the old one and then sliding on the new one.

Push down your front site. Push the pin holding your existing elbow out. Attach the direct feed using the stock pin. Viola!! It's not rocket science...a little common sense goes a long way.

Are you really going to defend someone who can't even remove an elbow that takes no tools to remove?

I am an owner of a Custom 98 and a Lapco Direct Feed.  If you are indeed talking about the Lapco direct feed it is really simple.

Unlatch stock feedneck (by pressing sight blade down).

Slide feedneck to the rear which, will clear both pins of the feedneck from the body of the gun.

Remove latch from stock feedneck with a screwdriver and attach it to the lapco feedneck.

Using a very small allen wrench (included with the feedneck), remove (but, do not lose!) the screw on the very bottom of the Lapco feedneck.  It holds the single pin in place.

Use the same allen wrench to push the pin out one end.  If it doesn't push out, loosen the screw more.

Line the Lapco feedneck up in the open position, and reinsert the pin through the gun body, and the lapco feedneck, making it flush with both sides of the feedneck.

Use blue loctite on the screw (not red if you ever plan on removing it) and tighten it down, being careful not to overtighten and strip the screw (it does very easily).

That's it.

Did he ever say that he couldn't remove the stock elbow?  Get a better clue before taking a jab at a new player.

A little rocket science, eh?
1.  Since when do Custom 98s use one pin to hold the feedneck on?  Take a closer look at the owners manual.  Or, just take your feedneck off.
2.  Even if you did get the pins out of the stock feedneck they wouldn't work with the Lapco.  It's meant for a single pin held in place with a single screw.  Sure, you could get creative with the JB weld and may have some success but, why?

Apparantly this isn't so simple a concept,  as all of you people missed it.

Taking a look at the feed again, it does look a little complicated, but not terribly complicated.

Right on Tippmania I have to agree with you , whats the sense of ranking on someone when with usually less energy and effort you can simply answer his question

And I as well would like to commend you UV Halo good job man .

^^^ Irony?

I wasn't just taking a shot at a newbie. In my life I try to figure things out on my own. Too many people go asking for help before they even try to help themselves. If you had any attention to detail and inspected your new part you would have noticed the allen plug holding the pin.

I fear for the safety of other players on paintball fields when people like you are walking around with a marker.

PS. If you are under the age of 10 disregard this statement.

Yeah, you were just taking a shot at the new player, and you've done it twice now with still nothing useful to contribute.

Maybe you don't understand the purpose of forums.  The exchange of information.   Additionally, it's pretty standard practice that just about any question can be asked as long as it meets the following criteria:
1.  It's in the right section
2.  It's not in the FAQ.
3.  If it's not easily found via search.
4.  It's not about the existance of snipers (J/K).

That being said, why put forth the effort to slam?  Possible reasons include:
1.  Upping your post count.
2.  Just killing time on the forum.
3.  Feeling the need to make yourself feel better.
4.  Feeling the need to make someone else feel bad (sometimes related to reason 3).

If not any of these reasons, I can't see why you woudn't save yourself some time and energy by just clicking "next topic" or, your browser's 'back' button.

Tippmania and Wrathlon, Thanks for the kind words.

Josem268, No problem.

I bought a Rap4 neck and it won't fit the 98 Platinum.  Has anyone had any problems with the Lapco feedneck fitting the 98 Platinum?  Just asking so I don't waste my cash.
