This is my first post on the Tippmann Forum.  To say the least I am as green as it gets.  I just purchased a Tippmann A-5 base marker.  I plan on purchasing upgrades as well.  I have convenient and free access to HPA refills.  Is there anything I need to know before I start using an HPA tank with my marker.  Do I NEED to get the Low Pressure Kit, Expansion Kit or the regulator to use the A-5 with HPA?

Thanks for your responses.  I am really looking forward to getting involved in the sport.

the only thing you need to use HPA on your gun is a high pressure output tank, (800-850psi).  Besides that you do not need any kits or anything like that, as long as it is a high pressure tank you just got to screw it in and play.  the tank will usuablly be labeled if it is a high pressure tank or not.

After replacing the stock barrel what other upgrades would you guys recommend?

Probably a trigger/grip upgrade: either R/T or E-grip it. All depends on what you play... speedball or recball?

You could get a dropforward (Shocktech make nice A5 Drops), the internals in tippmanns are pretty good. You could get the vortex and qev upgrade to speedup the cyclone, and a jcs red hot powertube thats nice and loud. As I said, it all depends on what and how you play.

Go for a J&J ceramic or a Lapco Bigshot barrel.

Wow, a new forumer that uses proper grammar and the search button.  Welcome to the forum!

For barrel I suggest getting the Lapco Bigshot.  Length of the barrel is just prefrence.  I have an 8, 12, and 14 inch Bigshot and they all shoot the same. I wouldnt go over 14 though.

Now after that, I would play a little bit before you decide to drop a lot of money on a marker you might decide not to use after a few times.  But if you are interested in HPA, just get a tank that is high pressure output and you will be set.  I suggest a Crossfire tank.  I have a 68/4500 and it will last you about 1000 shots.  Also, if you do get a 4500psi tank, make sure you local field of proshop can fill it to that psi. I have 2 proshops and only one can, the other has to stop at 3000.  If you have any more questions, feel free to pm me.

I have a question about tanks aswell.

If I use a 68/4500 low pressure tank will I get more shots than I would with a 68/4500 high pressure tank because its letting out less pressure? Or is the same air amount still used with each shot?

No, you will get the same amount of shots.  I suggest getting the high pressure output so you dont have to deal with the low pressure kit.

Once again, Crossfire makes excellent tanks.

And even with the low pressure kit you still want the high pressure tank for optimal performance.

Doesn't matter. Both get the same amount. Very few guns require LP tanks (newer Angels do) so it is generally a wise choice to just get an HP. LPKd Tippmanns run a bit better on them (HP), like CK said.

We are switching to HPA and love it.  Lasts longer and nothing freezes up. Have been renting the tanks; we are now buying our own tanks.  They can be filled at any field that is set up to fill HPA, or as we are going to do, from SCUBA TANKS using an adaptor.  Our field doesn't even bother charging for compresses air. Kudos to Vaughan Mills Paintball in Toronto! Outstanding. $20 for the day. Paintballs at cost. Free HPA.  We are trying to talk them into staying open all winter.
