I'm not sure which barrel to get for my ion.

I really don't have alot of money to spend so I'm aiming for the tactical.  I know everyone says that don't get anything over 14" because it won't help if its any longer but seeing the difference between the 14" and 18" Boomstick on my friend's ion was pretty cool. The 18" was noticably more accurate than the 14" and didn't have drop in range. So i'm going for a longer barrel.

I play speed ball but on large fields.  Manueverability isn't a problem with me since i've already played with a long gun before.

16" Dye Ultralite, match the color of it with your gun to make it look perfect.

Don't get anything longer than 12".  It is a waste of gas and it doesn't do anything for your accuracy or distance.  If you want to maximize your distance and accuracy, you need a better paint to bore match.  If anybody tells you otherwise, they're yanking your chain.

there is a reason to buy a barrel longer than 12"

poking through a bush
pushing air bunkers

(i use an 8" on my a5 and a 6" on my phantom)

I don't know why you think accuracy doesn't improve after 12". I know everyone says that on these boards but I've sen it with my own eyes.  Like I said in my first post, my friend brought over his ion with his boomstick. We both fired it and measured the grouping of both the 14" and 18".  And without even having to measure we could tell it was definately more accurate.

well there is more then just the barrel boomsticks have different backs were you guys using the same paint and same backs... were you both using hpa... the only way you will see if there really is a difference is you have to be using the of everything and the only difference was the length

My 8inch Bigshot shoots just as far and accurate as my 12 and 14 inch Bigshot.

Length is just a prefrence and I wouldnt go over 14inch if I was you.

I suggest the Freak out of those two.

There are comparsions done between a 12" and a 14" ... the 14 has a LITTLE bit more distance by only like a foot or two...not worth the extra length. I gotta tell you I loved my Dye Ultralite.. best barrel I have ever used. I just sold it though :(

Even if there was a difference between the lengths, a foot or two more isnt anything great.....

People say you do, but I havent had much experience with barrels that long.  I never saw the point of having a barrel I can poke the other team with.

No there isn't any range loss.  I was expecting there to be but didn't see any.

My friend and I used his ion with hpa and his boomstick.

We just changed the fronts out from 14" to 18"(kept the same back).

I was also not expecting to see a difference in accuracy because of reading this forum, but there was(very noticable).

A friend of mine showed me this hilarious vid where this guy had some oversized barrel and went to to a run thru past several wooden bunkers on a recball field. So as he ran full steam his barrel just caught then ploughed into the wood, and he got seriously mangled as he got flung over the bunker (about elbow height) and landed on his head.

From that day forth I vowed never to buy a barrel longer than 14 inches. Too bad I cant find the link to this vid anymore, I think it got moved. Oh and from what I could guess the guy had about a 25" barrel or something insane

It has nothing to do what what I think.  It is what I know.  I've owned 12", 14", 16" and 20" barrels.  The 16" & 20" barrels didn't shoot any better than my 12" & 14" ones.  The only difference I had to make was turning my air up higher to keep the velocity the same as the shorter barrels.  The longer your barrel is, the more surface the ball has contact with as it is shot through the barrel.

I'm just trying to save anyone some money, time and frustration.  You want better accuracy?  Get a better paint to bore match.  If distance is important to you, get a Flatline (Tippmanns) or Apex barrel.

Well, none of that helps me, but thanks anyways.
