    Posted: 06 October 2006 at 4:15pm
I bought another Ion last Friday and found this body kit while visiting my parents for thanksgiving.  I also bought a qev, rail, feedneeck and trigger, overall it works great, much like the others that I have; I bought a WAS etrigger for my a5 because the original boards are such battery hogs and I bought the vortex kit for the cyclone.

Imagine there’s a picture of your favourite thing here.

Yes, the linear barrell.  I can't max out this board so I don't plan on upgrading it, I have a problem walking the trigger; missing a chunk from my index finger.

no need to apologize, not everyone likes them, and they don't add anything but looks (if you like that look).  I like the color more than anything.

I like all Ions.. so I'll raise my SOBE No Fear drink and say, It looks great. But one thing I don't agree with.. the battery life on the orignal tippmann A-5 E-Grip...I'm pretty sure it actually lasts LONGER since it has no LED light...and I have also heard many members here say the same....could be wrong though, I'll stick with it anyway since I love the "Dial" design, adjusting the WAS in the sun would suck since you do it by the light blicking or color..

Aiee don't say that, I hope you're wrong. I still have my original one, so if it doesn't work as well I can switch it back.  I do know that once the battery starts to drain, my a5 misfires and acts up until I put a new battery in; when I take the old one out, it's still got a good 6-7 volts.  If the new board works better in that regard, I'll be happy.

If you have the time, I would really appreciate it if you could actually test the battery life of each? I've been dying to know if what I said was true or not since some people claim the WAS has a better battery life and some people say the E-Grip has has a better battery life.

All I own is the ORIGNAL E-Grip so I can't really compare, but you could. If you ever find the time to I think it would help out a bunch of forum members, because there haven't really ever been any tests comparing the two.

The efficiency of the board's architecture (ie, no "power leaks") will make a much bigger impact on battery life than a little flickering LED.

Ok....that's understandable.. but didn't really help, you've been here awhile so you might know, is there a dramatic difference between them?

It was meant to say that an LED is not a power guzzler.

I don't know which is better on batteries. It shouldn't be a huge difference, regardless.

I know LEDS aren't a power guzzler, there is a reason most people are pushing to use them in home electronics and rescue devices because their battery life is almost 10x as long as regular blubs. However an addition of an LED compared to an electronic with NO light\led... I would assume the power consumption would be less

Nice setup man.  I thought about the dynasty body kit but I just can't justify $100 just for looks though.  Looks don't make it shoot any better.  However yours looks really sweet.

^^^Same here. When I get my Ion i'll probably get one. I can't stand plastic. The people at my proshops don't know prices it $69.99 for a dynasty Ion body and $102.99 for a proto jersey. Anyway. Nice gun.
Thinking about it...

I'm serious, I just can't walk a trigger, I get it going not bad and then I mess up.  I'll post a pic of my fingers, you'll see why.  I will see how long the batteries last for each e grip, I was reading on pbc and some of the posts indicate that the WAS board gives better battery life.
I lost the end of my finger 20 years ago at the mill, doesn't affect anything I do except for typing and "trying" to walk a trigger; especially with paintball gloves on.

johnny, you should be able to walk without using your finger tips.  i walk using my fingers behind the first joint and have been clocked at upto 27 and a steady 24 in semi.  you just need more practice =(

start out by getting a pivot off the gun body with your thumb.
